How We Met & Began Dating

August/September 2012

Jenny and Spencer met each other in 2012 while working at a local health/fitness club in San Francisco (Jenny in the spa and Spencer in club operations). They would occasionally get together with mutual friends/co-workers after work to get dinner or to get a ride home - no one wants to take Muni! One day, Spencer received two tickets to a Giants game and texted Jenny to see if she would like to go with him. Jenny said no… To be fair - Jenny is a Dodger fan and was at Outside Lands Music Festival that day so she had valid reasons to turn Spencer down - but still.. Ouch! Eventually, Spencer would work up the courage to ask Jenny out again. This time, he invited Jenny out for ice cream and she said yes! You can’t say no to ice cream. Even though Spencer gave Jenny the wrong address getting her lost in SF, they were able to connect. Their adventure took off from there! 💕

The Proposal (as told by Jenny)

Sept 9, 2023

Spencer planned a weekend getaway for us in Monterey, California. Monterey has always been a special place to us and it didn’t hurt that there was an Indycar race happening that weekend at nearby Laguna Seca. That Saturday, we departed the hotel for one of the first places we ever went to together for lunch - Sly McFly’s. We then decided to go for a late afternoon walk on the beach at one of our favorite locations. We walked down the path to the sand and put our feet in the water. We were looking at all of the baby crabs in the water and seeing what other creatures we could find. I remember saying to Spencer, "Wow your mom would love it here, look at all of the sea glass! I always think of your mom when I see sea glass." As I continued to walk along the beach, Spencer told me to turn around and “look at this beautiful piece of sea glass he had just found”. When I turned to face him, he was on one knee and holding a ring. Spencer then said, "Jenny Pottkotter, will you marry me?" My memory is a bit fuzzy but I remember instantly crying and asking him if he was serious over and over. I was in absolute shock, I had no idea that he was going to propose! It was such a special and beautiful moment - just the two of us alone on a section of the Monterey coast we’ve been to so many times before. As I stopped crying, I yelled "I'm getting married!" 😂 It was perfect ❤️
