From Andrew's Point of View: Our relationship began long before we actually met. Almost a year before we actually met in person, I decided that I needed a way to relieve the stress of working 7 days a week on the Mercedes Benz Stadium project, and what better way to relieve stress than to play some volleyball? Fast forward a few months and to the start of indoor volleyball league. I am running late to my first game of the season and did not know where I was supposed to go. After finally figuring out where I needed to go, I arrived late, only to find out that my ENTIRE team did not show up and that I had to forfeit. Luckily for me, the team that just finished playing volunteered to play so we could at least play a scrimmage match. Liz just happened to be on that team. I'd love to say that I dazzled her with all of my athletic ability and that she was smitten, but she will tell you that I was very shy that night and that I said "maybe two words to anyone". I definitely recall it differently than her. Was it love at first volleyball match? Wish I could say yes (it would be a much better story), but unfortunately it was not. But as fate would have it, about two weeks later, we would see each other again. At an open gym night, I thought the girl playing on a different court looked familiar. Did I approach her and attempt to sweep her off her feet? Use a corny pickup line to try to talk to her? None of the above. Liz actually came over to me and initiated the conversation with me. This is something that she is very proud of today, constantly reminding me that "she made the first move". Liz then joined me and my friends for the rest of our games that night and afterwards several of us went to Buffalo Wild Wings for a bite to eat. That is where I finally found my "voice" and asked her for her number and later a date. The rest they say is history!
Anyone who knows Liz, knows that it is hard to surprise her. Luckily, I was able to somewhat surprise her for the proposal. We decided to head to Myrtle Beach a day before our friends were supposed to arrive so that we could have a little piece of the vacation to ourselves. On the way there, we stopped in Columbia and visited the Riverbanks Zoo, where we were able to feed the giraffes! After lunch, we were back on the road. Once we arrived in Myrtle Beach, we met a former coworker and his wife for dinner and later went to a local taproom for a drink. On our way back to the hotel, Liz let me know that she would be okay if we did not walk on the beach that night like we talked about earlier, but I convinced her that walking the beach at night is serene and peaceful, so we went. On our walk along the beach, Liz, being herself, let me know that this would be the perfect time to propose. I felt like I was screaming in my mind for her to stop trying to ruin the proposal! As we stood near our hotel and talked about the day and the upcoming weekend, I surprised her as I got down on one knee. Most guys anticipate hearing a shocked or surprised sound coming from their girlfriend, but that is not what I got. As Liz turned and looked at me down on one knee, she exclaimed "Seriously?!?" I was finally able to ask, and of course, her answer was YES!
