Just less than one week of moving to Norman, Oklahoma in the fall of 2017, Derek, having decided to return to college to continue towards earning his undergraduate degree at his family's alma mater and overall favorite college football team, the University of Oklahoma.

By some counts, Ruonan & Derek tended to move quite quickly. Ruonan, with her cunning and clever tricks, decided to use Derek's frugal and practical nature to persuade him to move in together on the basis that it would save him money on his rent, but secretly in her mind, she would later on reveal that she believed that this change would bring them closer together and take things to the next level in their relationship.

If you ever asked Derek where the last place in the world he would see himself and you were to guess China, you would be pretty spot on. Little would we later discover, that after Ruonan & Derek would meet, less than one year later they would be in China together so that Derek could find a way to ask her father for her hand in marriage.
