We first met in July 2015 when Pili saw Scott's band play at Zuzu, a club in Cambridge, Ma. Pili found out that the most handsome guy she saw in the bar was also in the rockin' band she was enjoying. Scott talked to her briefly as he was loading his gear out, thought she was beautiful, but convinced himself she wasn't looking at him from across the room like he thought she was (she was.) Pili thought he must not be into her if her flirting was not working. Over the course of the next year, they saw each other occasionally at local concerts, chatting briefly, and helped each other's friends get champagne for a New Years' toast at Great Scott (she can make her way through crowds easily because of her small stature, Scott's height made it easier to reach over people and hand her champagne in plastic cups). Scott strategically "liked" a few of her posts on Facebook. This went on until finally at a show at The Sinclair, another Cambridge music club, Scott waved at Pili in his very Scott way, and she made the cool move of buying Scott a beer from across the bar. It worked, getting Scott to say more than two words to her in one night. They exchanged numbers, agreed to go on a date, and the rest is history.
2020 was tough for everyone, plans were put on hold, and Scott & Pili both were tired of waiting to make any progress on their wedding. So on July 10, 2021, their fifth anniversary, they were married in Boston, Ma in an intimate ceremony officiated by A.J Bauer (now a groomsman) and attended by a close group of Boston friends. It may have only been a dozen people, a Green Line train made its way during the ceremony, the food was cooked by Pili, drinks mixed by Scott, and the table set with the help of those in attendance, but it was a magical time. So why are we doing this again? Well, for those who don't know, Pili is Catholic and very happy about it (despite some of her own views). It is important to her to not only celebrate this occasion with all of her family but also within her Church. Plus, getting married the first time to Scott rocked, why not do it again? Scott loves a good, warm (warm in the emotional sense, though also when the weather is pleasantly warm as it will be during a Puebla July) party shared with people who are important to him. The little wedding last summer was one of the best days of his life, but he wants to do it with everybody there and really get out all the feeling of love for his friends, family, Puebla and Pili through a night of good food, drinking and dancing and dressing up. And as Pili said, an opportunity to get married to each other all over again after just a year is one that can't be passed up.
In case she's never mentioned it, Pili's family is from the beautiful city of Puebla. Her parents, brother, and pretty much all of her family were born there. Pili was born in El Paso, lived in Chihuahua for one short baby year, and then San Diego, San Antonio, and now Boston. She has had many homes in her life and many cities have held her heart in different ways. After graduating from college, she had the opportunity (and funds) to travel more. One summer she met up with her mom on a visit to Puebla. Pili met family she had only heard stories about, saw places whose legends she knew, and connected with her family history. These are the same streets her grandfather walked every Sunday, the spots where many cafecitos or molotes have been shared, the old convent school her mom attended, the churches where her family has celebrated baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Being in Puebla is sharing a bit of her with everyone. On Scott's first visit to Puebla, he fell in love with the city immediately after wanting to find a place to chill on a balcony overlooking a public square, and getting to do just that. Puebla was exactly as he imagined it, only even more warm, welcoming, and relaxing. The fact that it meant so much in Pili's life only earned it a deeper and more permanent spot in his heart, making the decision to have it serve as the wedding location an extremely easy one.
