Mike just got back from sailing around the world with the Coast Guard. Amanda just graduated college and started working full time. They both were living around Alameda, CA and got to know each other hanging out with mutual friends.
It had been awhile. He had moved back to Reno to be near his family. She was single and had a ski pass she was looking to use. She asked him if he wanted to hit the slopes. They planned a weekend. He showed her around Reno and Gardnerville before they snow sported at Heavenly. Lots of laughs, hot springs soaking, cylindrical pillows, drinks, and snowball fights later, they both were interested, but how would this work across state lines?
Since their first weekend skiing they planned lots of fun trips between the Bay Area and Nevada including Alcatraz, Monterrey, camping, jet skiing, Anderson Valley Beer Festival, Tough Mudder in Vegas and several more ski weekends. Then when she got a new job offer, they took a big leap and moved to Denver together where she could still be a bit city while he could still be a bit country.
The couple was on the road with their travel trailer to visit three national parks in one week: Rocky Mountain, Grand Teton, & Yellowstone. They spent the week hiking, sightseeing, riding horses, spotting wildlife, kayaking, and eating their way towards the Grand Teton Half Marathon they were running at the end of the week in Jackson, WY. Mid-week they went to see "the real" Old Faithful. He was sweating as the reliable geyser was 10 mins late. As the geyser went off he got on one knee and asked her if she wanted to roam on the road together for the rest of their lives and she said Yes!
