Things To Do

You are in Guadalajara, Jalisco the birth place of Tequila and Mariachi music!
Avenida Chapultepec

Avenida Chapultepec

Avenida Chapultepec Sur, Guadalajara, Jal., Mexico

This pedestrian-friendly boulevard is a walkway in Chapultepec Avenue between Av. Mexico and Av. Washington (Close to Casa Habita and Hotel Demetria). Throughout the walkway you will find fountains, sculptures and monuments. In this area you will have tons of bars, cafes, and restaurants (and many hipsters). It hosts the famous “tianguis” (flea market) every afternoon and evening along with musicians and shopping.

Bosque Los Colomos

Bosque Los Colomos

3200 Calle El Chaco, Guadalajara, Jal. 44630, Mexico
, +52 33 3641 3804

This sprawling park is located near those guests staying at the Hyatt Andares. It is a great place to stroll (or run) around. There are many routes to explore and a lovely Japanese Garden. I always wish I brought crackers or peanuts to feed the very very lively squirrels!

Tacos Providencia

Tacos Providencia

534 Avenida Rubén Darío, Guadalajara, Jal. 44657, Mexico
, +52 33 3641 6049

The absolute best taco place for authentic tacos. Try tacos al pastor! If you are adventurous, the tacos de lengua (tongue) have the softest meat and are delicious. There are a few locations throughout the city.

Cultural Institute Cabañas

Cultural Institute Cabañas

Est. 1791, it was designed by famous Manuel Tolsa it was originally a hospital, orphanage and almshouse. An Unesco world heritage site which features a series of monumental frescoes by José Clemente Orozco, including one of his most famed creations, the allegory of The Man of Fire.

Tortas Toño

Tortas Toño

3160-2 Tierra de Fuego, Guadalajara, Jal. 44630, Mexico
, +52 33 3642 8739

When I touch down in GDL, the first thing I want is a torta ahogada (literally means drowned sandwich). It is one of Guadalajara's most famous dishes and it is a baguette filled with pork served with hot tomato sauce on top (all over really). Each torta comes with two sauces, one tomato and one HOT sauce (do not mix these up!) and you can choose how much you'd like to add of each to your torta. You can also add onions/beans and lime. These are some of the best in town and as they are a fantastic hangover cure this may be the spot to go to on Sunday ;)

San Juan de Dios Market / Mercado Libertad

San Juan de Dios Market / Mercado Libertad

Calle Dionisio Rodríguez 52, La Perla, Guadalajara, Jalisco 44360, Mexico

The largest indoor market in all of Latin-America. Great spot to try lots of different food. Don't get lost!

Half Day - Tlaquepaque

Half Day - Tlaquepaque

Tlaquepaque, Jal., Mexico

1/2 Day Trip Tlaquepaque is especially known for its galleries, ceramics, pottery and mariachi. To Do: Regional Ceramic Museum (free) Eat at el El Parián and listen to the mariachi (fun fact, Mariachi originated in the state of Jalisco, where you will be!) Shopping options: Mercado Benito Juarez is a lively, local market in Tlaquepaque where you’ll find everything from souvenirs to foods and even piñatas. For items that are unique to this region of Mexico, we recommend checking out Cantú for tiles, Casa Piel for leather, Galería Cempasúchil for decorative items, and Galería Imperial for furniture.

Day Trip - Tequila

Day Trip - Tequila

Tequila, Jal., Mexico

Day Trip The town of Tequila is a little over an hour away from Guadalajara. If you like tequila or are interested in learning more about the process that goes into producing and bottling it, I highly recommend taking a day tour! Jose Cuervo does day tours and also a Tequila Train Experience which takes you to Tequila in an old style train with unlimited tequila drinks for the duration. There are plenty of other tour options that you can book though! If you are staying at Casa Habita they will help organize it for you!

Day Trip- Chapala / Ajijic

Day Trip- Chapala / Ajijic

423 Avenida Francisco Ignacio Madero, Chapala, Jal. 45900, Mexico

A beautiful lake town. Take a boat ride to a tiny island on the largest lake in Mexico where you can order fresh fish and cool drinks! Also be sure to check on the nearby town of Ajijic, an American retiree haven, to check out the cool art boutiques and picturesque cobbled streets nestled between green mountains and Lake Chapala.
