Aloha again friends, family, and loved ones - Our wedding and reception will now take place at the Hotel Wailea in the town of Wailea on the south side of Maui. The ceremony and reception will be held on their Sunset Lawn. Unfortunately, our previous venue canceled on us over Labor Day weekend without reason as the owner lives on the mainland. We were very fortunate to find our new venue for the same date and still support the same vendors! We are looking forward to celebrating with you at 3PM on Sunday, September 24th! For safe transportation home for our guests on the west side of Maui, we have reserved 3 sprinter van shuttles that will depart the venue at 10PM SHARP. These will head to the Papakea, Honua Kai, and Royal Kahana resorts. These are locations that are or right next door to where 99% of the guests staying on the west side are located. If you miss these shuttles, you will have to take an UBER unfortunately. For those of you staying on the south side, Ubers/Taxi to Kihei are available and just a 10 minute ride. Here is the wedding venue address for quick reference. Hotel Wailea, Relais & Châteaux 555 Kaukahi St, Wailea, HI 96753 We have also updated the FAQ section of the website to inform everyone about the businesses that have reopened on the west side of Maui. Thank you all for taking this all in stride and going on this journey with us. It's going to be an amazing celebration! Love, Phil & Marissa
Aloha family, friends, and loved ones - We are completely devastated by the wildfire disaster in Lahaina town here on Maui. There are no right words at this time. Maui is a paradise full of beauty but it’s the people who make Maui truly special. Our prayers are with the victims and our community. While we were initially hesitant to move forward with our wedding, our vendors in the community reached out to us after this tragedy asking us to please KEEP our wedding date the SAME as businesses here rely on tourism and events to survive even month to month. By us moving forward with the wedding AS PLANNED on September 24th, it will support 13 different companies and keep their small businesses allowing them to provide for their family and children so they can stay here on Maui. The wedding will STILL be on the 24th and we will be giving love back to our cherished community in this way. We were extremely fortunate and lucky to live 20 mins north of the edge of the fire so we are safe and our home was not damaged. We have been involved in the community helping as much as possible and would like to continue this volunteer effort with our guests a few days before our wedding. We will find out our community’s updated needs and hope you will all join us in these efforts in a group activity TBD the week of our wedding. Maui is open for business and travel according to the Mayor and roads are open to drive all around the island EXCEPT to enter into downtown Lahaina which should NEVER be considered. With this in mind, PLEASE know it is with the utmost importance that we all respect the local community and AVOID Lahaina town completely and also be sensitive to our neighbors outside of downtown Lahaina and front street. We also need to respect the land by not littering, respect the sea by using reef safe approved SPF and not touching anything in the ocean, and of course - treat all people with EXTRA aloha and kindness. Some hotels/condo properties are helping those displaced residents that need temporary housing and we DO NOT want to interfere with that in anyway. One of those properties is the Honua Kai that we know a few of you have booked. It is a case by case basis and up to the owner of the unit you booked with how they intend to use their property. They may keep you in your unit, move you into a different unit, or ask you to find a new accommodation with a different owner or at another location. Papakea Resort two doors down from Honua Kai currently has availability and owners who want bookings. I have confirmed with several owners there that Papakea Management is allowing their owners to book VRBOs at their own discretion and those owners are willing to book to the public. We are VERY sorry for this inconvenience and frustration but we hope you understand the help they are providing the community. For those renting condos, we still recommend stocking up groceries at Costco, Target, Walmart near the airport upon arrival to be respectful to the local resources closer to our side of the island. There are also lodging options in the town 30 minutes south of Lahaina called Kihei (kee - hey). Kihei has boutique shops as well as tons of restaurants if you were planning in eating out frequently. The lodging accommodations in Kihei are not involved with the temporary housing program. If you need some clarification or you are not familiar with the island, please just text Phil or Marissa at 808-276-4189 right away so we can assist. We love you all and look forward to respectfully celebrating our love with you on September 24th as planned! Love, Phil and Marissa
After our phones crossed paths on vacation, we were finally able to connect on the Bumble dating app. After many months of FaceTiming and long-distance visits, we are now finally together living on Maui. We share a strong Christian faith, enjoy live music, and truly appreciate all things Hawaii. Phil's calm and relaxed nature perfectly balances with Marissa's loud but positive outgoing personality. We are such a perfect fit in soo many ways! After a romantic boat ride, Phil surprised Marissa with a beautiful proposal on Hulopo'e beach on the nearby island of Lanai. Phil's friend was hiding in the palm trees with his camera to perfectly capture the surprise moment! We truly hope we get to celebrate our special day with you so we can share our happily ever after amongst all our loved ones! Please RSVP before July 1st, 2023. Many mahalos and see you soon!
