"This state park is near the site of the first landing on April 26, 1607 of Christopher Newport and the Virginia Company colonists before establishing themselves at Jamestown. The park includes cabins, areas for camping, fishing, and swimming, a public beach, and over 19 miles (31 km) of trails for hiking and biking. Virginia's most popular state park, it's visited by over a million people each year."
"The port of Yorktown, which remains the seat of government, was the site of the final battle of the American Revolution where on October 19, 1781, Lord Cornwallis surrendered his British Army to the combined American-French forces under Generals Washington and Rochambeau. However, Yorktown’s history precedes 1781 and that decisive battle. The present location of the charming town was first occupied by the Native American population for at least 10,000 years prior to the Europeans’ arrival."
