Peter and Sarah’s journey started as a friendship when they met volunteering at church in March of 2020. They became part of a tight-knit group of friends and got to know each other better that way. After about a year of friendship, they found themselves as next-door neighbors in Glendale, CA. Over the next few months, and unbeknownst to them (but apparently “beknownst” to everyone around them), they fell in love. One night in March 2021, under the shadow of a cross at their favorite park, Peter asked Sarah if she’d ever considered a relationship together. She suggested they pray about it, and within three weeks they both felt it was the right thing, and they were officially dating. They began a beautiful relationship. One day during the early stages, Sarah asked Peter if he’d ever consider living on a boat. He responded, “I can’t believe you’re having this idea independently and I don’t have to talk you into it—yes!” They both promptly forgot this and continued their relationship journey. A year after they began dating, Sarah moved one city over to Pasadena, CA. Peter felt the next key step for them would be knowing where they were going to live once they got married, and once they knew that key detail, he knew he would immediately propose. In the interim, Peter moved to Ventura, CA because after prayerful consideration, both he and Sarah felt that this would be their new hometown. Ventura is a beautiful coastal community that they’d visited several times with friends and while dating, and they loved it. The downside of Peter moving was that he and Sarah now lived an hour and fifteen minutes apart and were effectively long distance for thirteen months. During this time period, Sarah and Peter toured a few different properties but they never found one that felt like the right home for them. Then one early morning in July 2024, Peter felt he was supposed to go for a run near the ocean. As the sun rose through a forest of masts, a thought struck him: 'I can’t believe some people get to live here.' With the memory of Sarah suggesting boat life early in their relationship, Peter checked to see if there were any boats for sale and found a beautiful potential fit. Sarah suggested they take a tour of it and the marina where it was moored. That was on a Wednesday. By Friday morning, through a miraculous provision, they had purchased their first home—a 30’ Ericson sailboat. Then life began to happen very quickly. Sarah moved out of her apartment and onto the boat, while Peter lived nearby. As soon as they bought the boat, Peter began preparations to propose. Three and a half years after their first date, at the foot of another historic cross that overlooks their new hometown in Ventura, Peter asked Sarah to marry him, and she said yes. And that’s how the story begins.
