Take a stroll through the swamp in Jean Laffite National Historical Park! Spring is the perfect time to see all sorts of critters and gorgeous flora. Boardwalks and trails will take you through the Barataria Preserve, home to alligators, over 200 species of birds, and wetland plant life.
We highly recommend taking an airboat tour of the swamp! Glide across the water, deep into swampland you would otherwise never see. Be prepared to get up close and personal with some alligators! By the way, alligators love marshmallows - who knew?!
Great indoor activity! It's a huge museum. You could easily spend the entire day there and not see every exhibit. New Orleans is home to the LCVP, or Higgins boat, the landing craft that brought US soldiers to shore in every major amphibious assault of World War II. Lindsay's grandfather served in WWII and has a commemorative brick located in the pavilion!
Surrey's was one of our favorite breakfast places when we lived in New Orleans! They don't take reservations, but the wait is worth it! We recommend the Costa Rican breakfast, shrimp and grits, and anything having to do with their biscuits.
Lindsay's favorite BBQ spot in New Orleans - it might have something to do with the fact that it was only two blocks from her old house. The Hogs for the Cause smoked wings are award winning! Get two orders... you're not going to want to share.
Hands down, another New Orleans favorite! Oysters, oysters, and more oysters. Their BBQ Gulf Oysters are incredible. Luke also has the best French 75 in the city. Slide in at the bar for happy hour or make a reservation for dinner - you won't regret it!
You might be thinking, is that a shake they're sending me to? Well, yes, but it's also one of our favorite places to grab a drink in New Orleans! With a phenomenal whiskey and bourbon selection, $6 happy hour cocktails, and tasty pop-up kitchens, you can't go wrong with Barrel Proof.
