Jay & Katie matched on the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel in 2017. Katie was drawn to Jay’s photo of him making ceramics. Jay & Katie's first date was drinks at Katie’s favorite Gramercy bar, Ampersand. They had an instant chemistry and spark. They kissed within 10 minutes of meeting and danced, talked, and laughed until the bar closed. For Christmas 2021, Katie surprised Jay with a 2 year anniversary trip for MLK weekend to New Orleans. Jay & Katie had a blast. They went on a ghost tour, ate the best gumbo and shrimp po-boys of their lives, and found Katie’s engagement ring while window shopping on Royal Street. It was 90 degrees on May 22, 2022. Katie thought she was meeting friends for brunch and reluctantly agreed to go to Harlem in the extreme heat. She was convinced Jay was proposing on her birthday a week later. Jay knocked it out of the park! He had a hidden photographer, a single long stem red rose (which is a nod to The Bachelor, one of their shows they watch and debate). Jay asked Katie if she would accept the final rose and she said, Yes! There were strangers watching and cheering. It was like a movie. To celebrate, Katie called her mom first and Jay arranged brunch with Katie's friends to celebrate. That night, Katie and Jay went to Irving Place to see Favio Foreign and danced the night away.
