We’re getting MARRIED!

On July 6th, we had plans to celebrate our 4 years of dating by going to Starved Rock. I had no idea that the night before, Peter had finalized all the logistics of popping the big question with the help of his family. He planned to do it on top of the Heights Tower, and was able to convince one of the workers (J.J.) to be at the top and secretly film us. As we were hiking, J.J. texted Peter to let him know that there were wasps at the top of the tower and they were going to have to close it today. Peter did a great job hiding his panic because I had no idea anything was wrong. He texted J.J. back and asked him to please keep it open, and J.J. agreed to be there at 7. We came home later, and Peter suggested we go out to dinner. I agreed, a great idea! We decided on Edge, a restaurant in the heights and the former site of where Peter asked me to be his girlfriend. Dinner was lovely, and towards the end of it, I caught on that something was happening. Peter didn’t finish his burger (strike #1) and spent about 10 minutes in the bathroom (finalizing plans with J.J. and confirming that we would battle the wasps and still go to the very top). After dinner we got in the car and Peter suggested we go up in the tower. We got to the top and walked around. After 2 minutes, Peter took my hands, got down on one knee, and said he had something to tell me. I don't remember much of what he said except "Will you marry me?", and I said YES! Best moment ever. We left the tower and headed towards Peter's house. I was so surprised as he opened the garage door and a projector and screen was set up ready to play a video he made of clips of us over the past 4 years. Cue the tears. We watched the film, popped champagne, and headed inside to be greeted by a party of all our family and friends! We are overjoyed to take this next step and spend the rest of our lives together!
