How We Met

05.16.2023

Peter and Kim met on Hinge like most millennials. Their first date took place at Sea Salt, nestled by the scenic Minnehaha Falls. Kim was already impressed before they even met; Peter’s tip about free parking in front of DQ was an unexpected green flag. As for Peter, it didn’t take long for him to be impressed by Kim's sense of humor and quick wit. Despite being genuinely intrigued by one another, neither Peter nor Kim was quite sure the other was interested. Not too long after their date, Kim broke the stalemate with a text, asking if he’d like to hang out again before her upcoming work trip. Their second date was a cozy picnic by Lake of the Isles, joined by her dog, Ari. After bites of Fire & Nice pizza and drinks, they strolled the Lake of the Isles neighborhood and rated million-dollar mansions.

The Proposal

10.06.2024

Peter and Kim got engaged at Pass Lake, Colorado—11,834 feet above sea level. The day didn’t start off picture-perfect; Peter woke up battling a nasty stomach bug. Still, they had plans to travel from Denver to Leadville with scenic stops along the way. Kim took the wheel, navigating narrow, winding mountain passes while Peter powered through altitude, nausea, and even a rickety ride on the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad. Delaying the proposal wasn’t an option—flowers and a heartfelt note were already waiting at their Airbnb. So, despite feeling miserable, Peter pressed on. At the summit of Pass Lake, he got down on one knee and faked Kim out with an Altoid tin before revealing the real ring. Once she realized it wasn’t a double prank, she said “yes,” and they celebrated with a few joyful, windswept photos. But the proposal quickly gave way to reality. On the drive back, altitude sickness caught up with Peter—he violently threw up in their rental car. Once at the Airbnb, he collapsed into bed while Kim ran out for Gatorade, crackers, a frozen dinner, and emergency cleaning supplies. The rest of the night was rough. With Peter still sick and dehydrated, they debated a romantic moonlit trip to the ER. Kim called her sister for medical advice and between tiny sips of water and some anti-nausea meds, things finally turned around. It wasn’t the smoothest engagement day—but it was unforgettable. A perfect mix of chaos, commitment, and love at high altitude.
