We met on Catholic Match, a dating website for Catholics.
Our first date was on the Marietta Square in downtown Marietta, GA. We told each other to look for the person wearing the most colorful clothes. To say we were nervous, is an understatement. We met on a bench and proceeded to the Marietta Wine Market, then to a Tapas Restaurant for dinner.
On May 21st, 2022, the first anniversary of our first date, we met on the same bench on the Marietta Square. I arrived early and had to tell the guy I was sitting next to that I was about to propose and would he mind if I had the bench. He gave me a big smirk. I was as nervous as our first date. Got down on one knee and she said yes. We proceeded to take the same route as our first date - Square, Marietta Wine Market and dinner at the Tapas Restaurant.
Our first date was May 21, 2021. Peter proposed on May 21, 2022. It just seemed fitting that we will be married on May 21, 2023. It is a Sunday, so we had to get special dispensation from our church, which really wasn't a problem.
YES! YES! We are so blessed to have found each other. We keep having what we call "pinchable moments" - can this really be happening? We love so many of the same things in life: family, music, especially live music, the arts, hiking, nature, the great outdoors, good food, cooking. Our personalities mesh so well. We have 60+ years of loving marriage under our belts and we know what is important in life and that carries forward into our relationship. How can we not be overjoyed and happy to be able to have this kind of deep love again!
The Catholic church ceremony begins at 12:45pm and will be a quick mass ending no later than 1:45pm. Our ceremony is sandwiched between two Sunday masses. There will be a break for guests between 1:45pm & the start of the Reed House Reception, which starts at 3:30pm. The church and reception are about 10-15 minutes drive from each other. The reception begins with drinks & nibbles at 3:30pm and will conclude no later than 9:30pm (there is a facility curfew). We expect the buffet dinner to begin about 4:30pm.
Smyrna’s historic Reed House (circa 1910) sits on 3.6 acres of landscaped property. At more than 4,500 square feet, the stunning two story home was designed by the world renowned architect Leila Ross Wilburn. Among its many unique features are a large 50’ x 15’ front porch, a distinctive porte-cochere (drive-under carriage gate), numerous leaded glass windows, oak paneled interior walls, window seats, a large warming kitchen, room for a DJ/dancing and much more. The upstairs rooms can be used for mingling and discussions on what a cute bride and groom we are. With its indoor and outdoor features, the Reed House will be perfect for our wedding reception.
Wedding Attire: Dress should be comfortable cocktail attire: dress shirt, slacks, jacket and/or tie, dresses or pantsuits. Ladies, shoulders should be covered during our wedding ceremony, as it is a Catholic mass. Reception should be comfortable enough for you to dance!
