In May of 2018, Peter was scrolling through Facebook and came upon a volunteer opportunity to visit a spectacular, old-growth longleaf pine savanna, that few get granted access to, in order to inventory trees. He messaged the poster of this opportunity, Heather, and exchanged a couple of messages. However, the two found it hard to select a date. Sound familiar? Then, in July, Heather saw that Peter planned to attend a friend's going away party. She thought, if nothing else, that this would be a good chance to meet him. At the party, Peter and Heather were both two of the first to arrive, and struck up a conversation when each realized that the other brought the same type of beer. Eventually, Peter realized who Heather was and exclaimed, "Oh, you're the bird girl!" Shortly after, Peter also said, "If you have more cats than you have breasts, you have too many cats. I have three cats." Heather thought, 'either this guy has one extra breast or too many cats, but either way, I'm intrigued.' Within days, they were already hiking, birding, and road-cruising for reptiles and amphibians. Still to this day, they vividly remember the gorgeous mudsnake that they found on one of those early outings. Within a week, they went camping and adventuring together. It was a quick fling, or so they thought, because Heather was moving out of state to grad school just two weeks after they met. They both decided to give long distance a go, and it turned into a six-year relationship full of domestic and international traveling, adventuring, laughing, and, of course, cats. They got engaged in Peru, immediately after being charged by a spectacled bear. Each took it as a sign for many more fun and exciting adventures to come. There have been many since, but none as deep and meaningful as the adventure of marriage. We're thrilled to get to share that adventure with you.
