{Português abaixo} Pete: Isa and I first met in November 2020 during the pandemic, preparing for a two-month cruise through the South Pacific. Isa, the scientist, and I, the engineer, collaborated, working to gather earthquake data from a particular section of the seafloor. Isa: After a month of passing in the corridors, sharing meals, working, and playing games, our friendship grew stronger. A group activity would slowly wind down. Our shipmates would retire to their berths, one by one, and we would find ourselves alone together, leaning up against a shipping container on the forward deck of the R/V Roger Revelle. The sun would set, minutes would melt into hours, and the stars covered the night sky. We were surprised by how much we had in common coming from such different worlds. We share a birthday, an appreciation for our loving families, and a clear idea of what is most important in life. Pete: I noticed a romantic connection before Isa did. It was confirmed one night when I was sitting in the lab and a scientist noticed a symbol on the interactive map. It read “Man Overboard.” I looked around the room and quickly realized that it was Isa’s shift, and that she had gone out on the back deck to retrieve the magnetometer. My heart sank and then quickly started racing. Other scientists and I grabbed life jackets and darted outside. There we found Isa chatting pleasantly with the techs and driving the winch. The scare was an accidental push of a hotkey, everything was fine. I knew I would have rushed to help any of my shipmates, but this feeling was different. I told her so a few days later. Isa: Our story progressed after the cruise, meeting again in Providence before spending Christmas at Pete's parents' house. While he was driving me back home, I asked Pete if he wanted to be my boyfriend. He hesitated, concerned with the logistics (of course) of a somewhat distanced relationship. A few days later, he finally realized the obstacles were no match for our potential. Pete: Separated geographically – me in New York City, Isa in Providence – for over a year, we maintained a distanced relationship, seeing each other every other weekend. After her graduation, Isa joined me in New York in the Upper West Side early 2022, along with Waffle, her little cat. _____ Pete: Isa e eu nos conhecemos em novembro de 2020, durante a pandemia, enquanto nos preparávamos para um cruzeiro de dois meses pelo Pacífico Sul. Isa, a cientista, e eu, o engenheiro, colaboramos, trabalhando para coletar dados sísmicos de uma seção específica do leito marinho. Isa: Após um mês cruzando nos corredores, compartilhando refeições, trabalhando e jogando, nossa amizade se fortaleceu. O sol se punha, minutos se transformavam em horas, e as estrelas cobriam o céu noturno. Ficamos surpresos com o quanto tínhamos em comum, vindo de mundos tão diferentes. Compartilhamos um aniversário, uma apreciação por nossas famílias amorosas e uma clara ideia do que é mais importante na vida. Pete: Notei uma conexão romântica antes de Isa. Foi confirmado uma noite, enquanto eu estava no laboratório e um cientista notou um símbolo no mapa interativo. Lia "Homem ao Mar." Olhei ao redor da sala e percebi rapidamente que era o turno de Isa, e que ela tinha saído no convés de trás. Meu coração afundou e depois começou a acelerar. Outros cientistas e eu pegamos coletes salva-vidas e corremos para fora. Lá encontramos Isa conversando normalmente com os técnicos e operando o guincho. O susto foi um apertar acidental de uma tecla de atalho, estava tudo bem. Eu sabia que teria corrido para ajudar qualquer um dos meus colegas de navio, mas esse sentimento era diferente. Isa: Nossa história progrediu após o cruzeiro, nos encontrando em Providence e dias depois começamos a namorar. Pete: Por mais de um ano, mantivemos um relacionamento à distância. Isa se juntou a mim em Nova York no início de 2022, junto com Waffle, sua gatinha.

Isa: Fast forward to July 2023, Pete asked me to marry him in Lake Como, Italy. Saying "Yes" to him in that beautiful place was the easiest "yes" of my life. Pete and Isa: Now we look forward to getting married and celebrating our love with you. We dream of going on adventures, trying good foods, building a family and sharing lots of wonderful memories with you all. _____ Isa: Avançando para julho de 2023, Pete me pediu em casamento no Lago Como, na Itália. Dizer "Sim" para ele naquele lugar lindo foi o "sim" mais fácil da minha vida. Pete e Isa: Agora estamos ansiosos para nos casar e celebrar nosso amor com vocês.
