We had seen each other several times since 2015 playing Warhammer 40K at a local hobby shop. But it wasn’t until March 2018, when Sam asked Mike a question about an upcoming Warhammer tournament, that we had an actual conversation. We became friends for a while and a couple of months later, realized that we both really liked each other. So we went on our first date to Creek Bottom Restaurant and played pool at the bowling alley in Galax. We watched Ready Player One together and we’ve been inseparable ever since! Each year, in celebration of the start of an extraordinary relationship, we watch Ready Player One on the anniversary of our first date.

We had been talking about getting married for a while, but we wanted to take our time and make sure it felt right. With six kids, it was important to us that we were a good fit and everyone was happy. After being together for two and a half years, Mike decided to propose to Sam on Christmas morning 2020. But... Mike can’t keep a secret for very long. He had put the ring in Sam’s stocking in preparation for Christmas morning, but ended up proposing on Christmas Eve instead because he couldn’t wait any longer. The kids squealed in excitement, Sam said yes (duh), and we began the next chapter of our lives... planning our dream Halloween wedding!
