"Liquid Courage"

In July of 2021, Kevin and Meghan first met at a happy hour with their mutual friend, Kim. While they had fun and enjoyed meeting each other, neither was romantically interested. A few months later, Kim convinced Kevin to join a kickball/flip cup beer league that she and her roommates were a part of. On the first night of the league, Kevin went over to the Williamsburg apartment where he and Meghan were re-introduced to each other. Meghan and Kevin quickly hit it off and would spend most of the time at games laughing and joking. They would often end up being on the same flip cup team at the after party bar, Kilo Bravo. They would also be the leaders when it came to taking Jello-O shots. It was a weekly occurrence that Meghan would try (and once succeed) to convince Kevin to call out from work the next day. When the kickball league ended, Meghan and Kevin continued to stay in touch. Meghan invited Kevin to partake in Santa Con festivities. (For our guests who are not from New York, Santa Con is a bar crawl activity around Manhattan, usually reserved for those in their late teens-early 20's...the bride and groom at the time were pushing 30. Party goers are encouraged to dress as Santa Claus or some other festive character.) Their group claimed a corner in Arlene's Grocery and played several rounds of Cheers Govn'r. When Kevin made Meghan's name one of the rules of the game, she immediately texted her friends, Melissa and Katie, asking them if it was a sign. After about 15 rounds of the game, Kevin and Meghan had their first kiss. After they shared their first kiss, they didn't see each other until New Year's Eve. Because it was still COVID time, going to a bar or a club was not an option. Meghan and her roommates, Kim and Rebecca, had a party at their apartment, and Kevin was lucky enough to catch an invite. Kevin and Meghan were inseparable all night and realized they had developed feelings for each other. Kevin and Meghan would text day and night. Even though they lived on opposite sides of Brooklyn, they would have movie nights, and start the movies at the same time. When Kevin found out that Meghan had never seen any of the X-Men movies, he insisted on watching the entire series from start to finish...and they did.

"Free Trial"

Eventually, Kevin got up the nerve to ask Meghan to get dinner and drinks. They went to Mad Dog & Beans on Stone Street with the idea that they would have a few margaritas and maybe some tacos. That was NOT the case. Meghan thought it would be a good idea to turn "dinner and drinks" into a full out bar crawl of Stone Street. The only rule? A shot at every bar. From Mad Dog they headed to Stone Street Tavern, ordered their shot of whiskey, and continued on with their conversation. Meghan went on and on about her love of Pittsburgh and how she went to law school at University of Pittsburgh and coached at Chatham University. Kevin knew his cousin Joe's now wife went to school in Pittsburgh, so he decided to text Joe while Meghan was in the bathroom. When Meghan returned, Kevin told her of the connection to Pittsburgh and how he told Joe he was on a date with a girl from Pittsburgh. Meghan's response? "A date?!" Kevin almost grabbed his jacket and walked out of the bar before realizing Meghan was teasing him. The date flew by despite lasting for hours. The final stop on the bar crawl was Killarney Rose. Another round of whiskey shots were ordered and Kevin poured his out on the floor. As punishment, he was instructed to "borrow" the shot glasses. Those shot glasses are still sitting on his shelf today. At 6:00AM, Kevin woke up with his hand in a half empty box of Insomnia cookies and a text from Meghan saying what a great time she had. A few days later, New York was anticipated to be hit with an insane snow storm. As you can probably guess, Meghan and her roommates decided to have yet another party. It was during the snow storm that Kevin decided to ask Meghan to take their relationship to the next level. For some reason, after only one official date, Meghan seemed surprised when Kevin asked her to be his girlfriend. Seeing that Meghan was a bit stunned, Kevin quickly followed up with an offer. "We can treat it like a Netflix subscription. A 7-day free trial. If you don't want to renew, we can cancel with no hard feelings." Meghan never canceled the subscription, and has now upgraded to the "Fiance Package."

"Go Fish"

After 15 months of dating, Kevin knew Meghan was the one. They had traveled the world together, met each other's amazing families, and discussed their future. The next thing that had to be done was for Kevin to get Bill's permission to marry his daughter. In April, Meghan and Kevin traveled to Pittsburgh for Meghan's grandfather's 90th birthday party. At the end of the weekend, before leaving for the airport, Kevin tried to get a minute alone with Bill, who was having a busy morning with work. He finally caught Bill and asked him for his blessing. Bill's response was "It's a yes...for now. We'll talk." Kevin went to join Meghan and Robin in the living room, where he listened to absolutely no part of the conversation happening. Bill came into the living room and asked Kevin if he had ever seen the motorcycle. Not knowing what Bill was getting at, Kevin said "umm yea?" Bill kept insisting that Kevin go to the garage and see the bike up close...so he did. That's where Bill finished his "...for now." He gave Kevin his blessing in the dark garage (not threatening at all.) For the next four months, Kevin had to keep his first secret from Meghan...and it was big one. He had planned to take Meghan to their favorite place to pop the question - the Breezy Point bay to watch the sunset. The week of August 25th, 2023 the weather forecast was looking overcast and rainy. But it turned out to be the best sunset of the summer. There was one issue with Kevin's plan: How was he going to get Meghan out of her beach chair to go stand on shoreline so he can propose? The best idea Kevin had was bringing fishing poles. All week leading up to the proposal, Kevin kept recommending bringing fishing poles to the bay and Meghan would always respond "Why? We don't fish." Ignoring the accurate answer, Kevin persisted. When it came time for him to pop the question, he had to convince Meghan to abandon her seat with a great view of the sunset and go fish. After some push back, Meghan agreed. Kevin snuck up behind Meghan and popped the question under a perfect sunset on the bay. The proposal was only part of the surprise Kevin had planned. After biking from the bay to Kevin's parents house, Meghan saw that Tom and Judi had gathered their family and close friends to celebrate the newly engaged couple. Standing at the end of the greeting line were Meghan's family members and some of her close friends. The party went for three straight days in Breezy Point. Kevin and Meghan are so excited to continue celebrating and cannot wait to see you all at the wedding!
