Things To Do
King Street
Emily's favorite shopping destination in DC! 10 blocks of stores, cafes, restaurants and even escape rooms - something for everyone! Visit the waterfront parks, and have a drink at Barca Pier on the water! Em's favorite stores are Shop Made in VA, She's Unique, Current Boutique and Red Barn Mercantile. Scott frequents Vintage, a wine shop, while Em shops. Favorite restaurants include the Light Horse, Barca Wine Pier, Cafe du Soleil, Josephines and Andy's Pizza! Take the free King Street Trolley from the hotel down to the market center, then walk 2 more blocks to check out the Alexandria waterfront. There are water taxis between Alexandria, the Wharf in DC and Georgetown!
Union Market
Our neighborhood! Visit local shops, grab a latte, taste all the variety of foods DC is known for!
Ivy and Coney
One of our favorite bars in town! Go to enjoy Detroit or Chicago sports games, decide which is better -- Chicago dogs or Coney dogs, or dare to drink some Malort. A great, no frills bar.
Eastern Market
A lovely area where Em and Scott used to spend their Saturdays when Em was living in Navy Yard. Go to enjoy local stores, great restaurants, and if you're able to, explore their large open-air market on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Mount Vernon
Historical home and farm of George Washington. Some weekends have historic wine and whiskey tastings! Bonus: You can walk, run or bike from Old Town to Mount Vernon via the Mount Vernon Trail - beautiful views along the river up to the old home, great for long distance runners/bikers!
United States National Arboretum
We went here on our third date - also featured in our engagement photos! Lovely spot for a bike ride or picnic!
Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Emily's favorite monument - we may be in time for the cherry blossoms, and if not, it's a lovely area to walk, run or bike!
