We didn't learn much Spanish that year, but we did pass lots of notes, share a lot of laughs, and get into a little trouble for talking to each other constantly during class. We became great friends, and that friendship lasted over a decade. Though we went to different colleges, lived in different cities, and developed new friendships over the years, we never lost touch. Then, in 2017 the stars aligned and we were finally in the right place in our lives to fall in love.

While on vacation in Maui we drove the Road to Hana, hiked to waterfalls, snorkeled a giant reef, and swam with sea turtles. But the best was yet to come. On the night of May 1st, we went to a gorgeous luau. We were greeted with fresh flower leis, and we watched the hula dancers while enjoying a few Mai Tais. It was a beautiful night. As the sun began to sink in the sky, we walked over to the ocean to take a photo. It was there, in the Hawaiian sunset with the waves crashing next to us, that Jeremy popped the question.
