On June 30, 2020, in Covid lockdown, Hannah joined the dating app Hinge and the first profile she saw was a six-foot-six man who was a teacher. She swiped and the next day on July 1, they matched. The first date was a video date in the app and they talked much longer than planned. At the end, they were open to meeting in person: a big deal in early pandemic days. They met for a socially distant walk at Shoreline Park in Mountain View. Hannah saw Terence and thought, "Ooh, he more fine than the pictures! I am glad he had a bad profile with group photos and photos in sunglasses because someone would've swooped this man up." Hannah was covered from head to toe in a hat, mask, long sleeve top and leggings so Terence could only see her eyes. The walk was full of easy and deep conversation. At the end, Terence went in for the hug. Hannah jumped backwards, stiff-armed him, exclaiming "Six feet!" She hadn't been around a human other than her parents in about three months. Terence called his boys afterwards and said Hannah had stiff armed him like Derrick Henry. They told him Hannah was definitely not into him. But she was. She reached out to let him know she wanted to see him again. After several more outdoor social distant dates, they were enamored.
Terence said if he made someone his girlfriend it was because he could see them as a life partner: he took it seriously and took his time making it "official" in October/November 2020. In December, he had a dream about he and Hannah having kids. At the end of February 2021, Hannah and Terence found out that they were pregnant. Oasis became the greatest surprise gift imaginable.
Paris is one of Hannah's favorite places in the world. Terence planned to propose to her there and the proposal was almost derailed by Terence, Hannah, and Oasis getting Covid a week before the trip. Terence had to audible and ask for Pat and Paul's blessing by text and get the ring an hour before leaving for the flight. Hannah had arranged for family photos and Terence shocked her when she turned around during the shoot and he was on one knee. Terence gave a beautiful speech that Hannah could not remember because she was in shock feeling like she was in a dream.
Terence and Hannah knew when they got engaged that they wanted to have a son and on June 20, 2023, they welcomed Isaiah. By the time the wedding comes, it will be five years since Terence and Hannah met. Despite already living as a family unit, marriage is a valuable commitment and this wedding is both a celebration of the family and a witnessing. Every guest at this wedding has been chosen because you are family whether by blood, marriage, or choice. You are a witness, a support to the union of Hannah and Terence and their roles in their family and community. Thank you.
