Question

Is it a Buddhist Wedding?

Answer

As you know Hannah is a practicing Buddhist and was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist order last year- and was given her new Buddhist name Amalanandi. Therefore many of you have asked if it will be a Buddhist wedding... In Buddhism marriage is not considered as a religious duty- therefore there is no such thing as a Buddhist wedding as such, or a set Buddhist wedding service. We've designed our wedding ceremony with our celebrant to reflect our shared values and the promises we want to make to each other in the presence of all our friends and family. Although the ceremony won't necessarily include any explicit Buddhist content, it is not something separate to our Buddhist practice but an important part of it- committing to support each other on our paths. Both names Hannah and Amalanandi will be used during the ceremony as this is important to both of us. You may hear both used throughout the day by different people and are welcome to use either.

Question

Can we bring our children?

Answer

We love your children but thought you'd want a night off! Regrettably children are not invited apart from new-borns and immediate family who have already been informed.

Question

What should we wear?

Answer

Please dress for the occasion but at the same time be yourself! The venue is mostly an outdoor venue- please bear this in mind- if heels are your thing then chunky heels advised over stilettos!

Question

What if it rains?

Answer

The Oak Grove is exactly that- a woodland oak grove. The ceremony and drinks reception will be outdoors. Hopefully June will provide us with an abundance of sunshine but the venue does provide 60 large umbrellas and blankets (1 between 2) if a light shower does occur during the ceremony. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, then the ceremony may move to under a tented area. The food and dancing will be served in the large tipi tent which is heated. They'll also be a fire pit outside for later in the evening.

Question

Do I need cash for the bar?

Answer

We will be providing a choice of Pimms or Prosecco for the drinks reception after the ceremony. There will be plenty of wine during the meal and tea, coffee and soft drinks available all day. From 7pm there will also be money behind the main bar and cocktail bar for free drinks. Please note that before this time (and after the money runs out) you can pay by cash or card.

For all the days along the way
