Travel Note
Welcome to Baja! Land of warm people, beautiful beaches and pristene waters. We can't tell you how happy we are to share this place with you, our family and our friends.
Travel Note
So you've decided to drive! Yay! It's about a 12 hr. drive from San Diego. We hope you choose to caravan with us, or with Jim. If you are driving alone: Drive south on I-5 toward the border. Once you cross, park and go to the immigration office on your right and obtain a tourist visa. If you do not have pesos they will simply ask you to visit the bank next door to change currency. Usually we will drive 8-10 hours one day and the next 2-3 hrs the next. If we leave early the first day, we usually drive all day then stop in Guerro Negro for the night at around 7-8pm and then leave early the next morning and arrive at the house by noon the next day. Returning home, we will leave early in the morning drive to San Quintin and leave early the next morning for the border; about a 4- 5 hour drive. The border wait can take 1-2 hours. We are usually back by 2pm. On the way back we like to stay at Jardines de Baja in San Quintin. The roads are in good shape and there are emergency services.

So you've decided to Fly! Yay! There are multi-weekly flights from LA>Loreto (the closest airport to our house) Airports - LAX > LTO Time - approx. 2 hr flight (+1 hr. ahead in Southern Baja) Airlines - Alaskan, Delta Recommended booking sites - kayak.com, hop2.com The Loreto Airport is about 2 hours from the Rancho Partera House. Once you land, the easiest option will be to rent a car for the duration of your time. Please see the Car Rental section. For those who need to be picked up, we ask that you share your itinerary with us as it will be difficult to pick everyone up if they are all on different flights. To fly in, you need a ticket to Loreto, BCS, Mexico. Air Alaska flies direct from LAX on Tue, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sunday. Cost can vary from $200-$400 roundtrip. Flight is only 2 hours direct form LAX to LTO (loreto)! There is also a private pilot who flies direct to Punta Chivato.
Rental Car
Car Rentals/Transportation to Rancho Partera from Loreto: There are three car rental agencies at the Loreto airport, Alamo, Hertz and Europcar. Reservations can be made on line or through the airlines. It cost about 60-$100 per day with all the insurance and you need to get all the coverage possibly. It is a 2 hour drive to the house. Just get on Hwy 1, go north 80 miles to Palo Verde (just past Mulege, there will be a small sign so pay attention for it) and then take dirt road toward the ocean 6 miles to Rancho Partera sign and turn right to the beach.

Good option for large families, or friends that want to stay together! At this time, all of the rentals in the actual town of Punta Chivato are currently booked on the Airbnb website. We have a few contacts in the area that are still renting out their homes off the internet and can put you contact if this is an option you'd like to explore! If you don't mind being a 30 minute drive away from the venue, feel free to book in the town of Mulege as well! There are numerous listings on Airbnb.com still available.
House Or Rental
Beach front camping/glamping. Tents, RV's, and Trailers welcome!! We HIGHLY encourage anyone who feels comfortable to plan on tenting or RVing on our property. We have a large beachfront lot, so if you have a tent or an RV or a Van, by far your best option is to park on our property and set up camp. Beachfront.
Travel Note
If you are joining us for the week, you'll want to stock up on some groceries from the local markets. There is a very large Super Lay in Santa Rosalia, about 30 minutes North of Punta Chivato. It's important to know that it will close to impossible to eat out for every meal, so you'll want to make note of this grocery store. We will be providing dinner for everyone on the night of the wedding, but other than that, please come prepared.
Travel Note
We know a lot of you are experienced travelers, but for those of you who don't know, it is IMPORTANT that you do NOT drink any water from the tap while you are in Mexico. Water from other countries can contain bacteria and enzymes different from that of the US, and can make you very sick and uncomfortable during your stay. We suggest stocking up on XL water bottles and Jugs for those of you who are driving, and for those of you who are flying, you can purchase water from the Super Lay in Santa Rosalia, or there are various tiny markets in the area who can fill up your water jugs with safe water. If you are no sure what water is safe, the best option is to drink from bottles with a unopened seal.
