Our Story

– As Told by Nigel –

We met like many before us in our modern time – on a good old-fashioned dating app. There she was on a casual Tuesday night, swiping dud after dud, when along came a smile that lit her up like the Fourth of July. She liked my profile not only for my strikingly good looks – but also because we had so much in common. Our profiles showed we both are big baseball fans (go Padres), and we shared a mutual interest in wine (which I would later find to be a sham). But most of all, it showed we shared the same values when it came to the importance of family and loyalty in our relationships. As for me, I thought she was drop-dead gorgeous. But who wouldn’t? I knew the moment we started talking that I had to meet her. Since we were both looking for something serious, we wasted no time in setting up a first date. I knew I liked her, so I pulled out all the stops and made reservations at one of the nicest steakhouses in San Luis Obispo (take notes, fellas). She told me, and I quote, “You know I’d be fine with just tacos, right?” to which I replied, “This is our first date, and we only get one – so let’s make it count.” What a romantic. I waited what felt like an eternity until the following Thursday when we hit the town. We had a couple of drinks, a ton of laughs and nonstop conversation, a delicious steak in an empty restaurant, and all the other joys of getting to know someone for the first time. I knew shortly thereafter, with a calm certainty, that this would be my last first date. Rylin, on the other hand, thought I was a little too chatty (I was nervous, it happens). I found out (much) later that she was, in her mind, making a fresh new space for me in her friend zone. I remained persistent, as one does when they are looking to secure a National Treasure, and she eventually came around to make the best decision of her life. Over the course of our relationship, we’ve spent a ton of time together exploring the Central Coast, taking drives along Highway 1, picking up golf, playing catch at the local park, getting competitive at Gin Rummy, spending time with family (I drew a family tree to remember you all – it’s big), and learning how to be the best versions of ourselves for each other every day. Being in Morro Bay, we have come to love a day of pulling up to our local beach (dubbed “The Rock”), where we’ll relax and watch the surfers, being sure to point out any corgis that pass by. It is our happy place – no matter how insane a month is, from social events to final exams, to the craziness of grape harvest or busy months for Rylin with Candor Wells (her design business), we know we can always pull up to this special place and forget about it all, together. This is why, on October 4th of 2024, I chose this place to do what all men who love their lady must do - with an embarrassing amount of tears streaming down my face, I asked Rylin to make me the happiest man on Earth at this very place. And well, you all know what her answer was. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, we love you all and are so excited to celebrate with you together on our big day. See you soon!
