It depends. If you want to be closer to the wedding venue, fly into Kona (KOA). If you want to check out the other side of Big Island first, fly into Hilo (ITO). You can also fly into Honolulu (HNL) first and then take a short flight to the Big Island airport of your choice!
We definitely recommend that you rent a car so you can experience the most out of Big Island. You can get by without 4WD, but depending on the areas/beaches you want to visit, you may have a lot more walking to do. Note to look at the rental agreements if you're getting 4WD since they may specify no unpaved roads.
The hotel does not have a free shuttle service to/from the airport. If you have a rental car and are coming from KOA: Upon leaving Kona International Airport, head north on Kupipi St. Make a slight left to stay on Kupipi St. Make a slight left toward Keahole Airport Road. Keep right at the fork and continue straight onto Keahole Airport Road. Turn left onto HI-19/Queen Kaahumanu Hwy for 17 miles and turn left onto Waikoloa Beach Dr. Turn left onto Kawahine Pl by the sign for the resort.
