It had been 9 months since Katelynn had moved to the Roaring Fork Valley and working Accounts Payable for The Little Nell. In these 9 months, Paul had charmed her with his wit, dry humor, and insufferable Monty Python references while refusing to date her because of some soul-searching he still had yet to do. Finally, after a full day of skiing/riding/flirting on Snowmass, just as they are about to cross Fanny Hill to get to Snowmass Village Mall, Paul asks: do you want to come over and watch a movie?
Paul has had a ring going on 9 months now (at least he's consistent). While he has stated to anyone who asks (Nury Avila), he is waiting for "the right moment." Now, throughout these 9 months, some moments have come along: visiting The Great Sand Dunes a few times, stargazing on the top of Independence Pass, a trip or two to Vegas... somehow, either these were "good moments" but he didn't have the ring on him, or he did have the ring on him, but no "good moments." Finally, on October 26, 2019 at around 12:30pm, after they have their first cider tasting, Katelynn asks, "So, are you going to propose to me here?" Paul plants his feet purposefully and says, "Not here." Throughout the day filled with cider tasting and merciless teasing on Katelynn's part, Paul skillfully avoided falling into any proposal traps. Until later in the evening, when the small bonfires had been lit and people were dancing, Katelynn was in a lawn chair, Addie was on her lap, and Paul was next to her (conveniently already on his knee). Katelynn turned her head: "Propose to me," she said with a warm smile. "Here? But the ring's in the tent..." "You can get it later and do it again." "... There have been many decisions I have made in my life, but none has been greater than the day that I asked you to watch a movie with me. You are, by far, the most important person in my world, and I would be so honored if you would choose to continue to spend your life with me. Katelynn Taylor Simpson Schultz. Will you - " "Yes," she interrupts. " - marry - " "Yes," she interrupts, again. "Me?" "Yes." He dropped her off at the car, got the ring, put it on her finger through the car window as he proposed for a second time, and took her home. He would repeat the proposal, at Katelynn's request, a few more times through the evening. Each time, she said, "yes."
