We met and became friends during our first year of college at Baylor, not yet knowing all the seasons of life we would soon cheer each other through. After quickly becoming one another's best friends, we started dating in the spring of our first year. Throughout college, we both grew to know God more deeply as we sought out the best in each other. We have many family, friends, and loved ones to thank for all the ways we were cared for & supported over these years. After graduating college in the pandemic, we both had ambitious goals to pursue our graduate degrees and move to Colorado. We knew we wanted to move into our next phases of life together, so we continued to love and support one another amidst new challenges to discover what God had for us here. Over the past year, we have built something so life-giving, surrounded by deep friendships, & marked by the goodness of God in our lives. We are both now over a year into our programs, a Masters in Biostatistics & a Master of Divinity. We are incredibly happy, settled, and excited to start our marriage in the place that has become home to us.
Liz and I started talking about the prospect of getting engaged during our first Thanksgiving in Denver, the year that we moved to Colorado. We had cherished the past few years of dating and watched as they had transformed us into the people that we are today. We knew that we loved each other deeply and desired to spend our lives together. Once the New Year had started, I began planning my proposal to Liz with our family and friends. We rented a cabin in Winter Park, Colorado, and I started planning a proposal on Berthoud Pass which overlooked a stretch of the Rocky Mountains that had become such an important symbol of our relationship. I took countless trips with friends to scope out the location and find places for them to hide in the trees & bushes as part of the surprise. I also planned with a few close friends from college to fly into Denver to surprise Liz. On the day of the proposal, I took Liz on a brunch date before driving up the mountain where we walked out to the clearing where everyone was waiting in the trees, with cameras ready, to capture the emotion of the moment. It was truly a sweet & heartfelt moment and we spent the rest of the day celebrating the start of our life together with those closest to us!
