Where we got engaged! The most beautiful, romantic, dreamy place we have been so far. 100% would recommend staying in Bellagio or Varenna. A boat on the lake is a must and the gardens of villa melzi (the gardens where we got engaged) are worth walking around and are a 5-minute walk from downtown Bellagio. Villa Balbianello is unbelievable and known for being where Star Wars was filmed. Every restaurant and wine bar are worth stopping in especially for aperitivo. We loved Hotel Du Lac which is a rooftop bar only opened from 6:30-8:30pm with an amazing view and great cocktails. The ferries across the lake are very efficient and cheap. We got a driver from Milan airport to Bellagio and when leaving we took the ferry to Varenna and the train from there. There are plenty of hotels in the area and we stayed in the cutest Air Bnb with a great view.
The Amalfi coast is as unreal as everyone says it is! We stayed in Positano the whole time. Getting to Positano is one of the bigger adventures. It is easiest to travel from Naples and get a driver from there or take the ferry.. we got a driver and it was 100% worth it. The steps here are NO joke but the views are truly unbelievable. Beach clubs here are the way to go, we did Da Fernando, Arenzio and the local beach club. A boat day here is also a must and a highlight of our trip (The Mediterranean and seasickness aren't a good combo) Reservations are highly recommended here for dinner! Da Vincenzo, La Tagliata (amazing never ending dinner also the location of a crazy fun cooking class), La sponda, Il Tridente, Roc, Chez Black, Ristorante Max Collina (breakfast & gelato), Francos bar (sunset great view), Angelos (both breakfast and amazing spot for sunset drinks) Music on the rocks is a fun club in a cave sky lounge is a bar above it we went here for drinks before.
We went here via train in the middle of our trip. We truly loved Florence. There is SO much to do and see and eat here. While here we did a lot of exploring and eating. We were amazed by the duomo, watched the sunset at Piazza Michael Angelo, and did the most amazing day wine tour of Tuscany & went to San Gimignano. Restaurants: Pinos, Osteria pastella, Trattoria zaza, Acqua al 2, La Giostra Fiaschetteria Osteria Nuvoli was our favorite wine bar near the duomo but off the tourist path lots of wine was had on the sidewalks of Florence here. Drink windows: babae, osteria belle Donne, fiaschetteria fantappie (seats outside & near piazza Michael Angelo)
You cant build Rome in a day but we did it in 1 day (7 hours to be exact). Rome originally wasnt on our itinerary but we squeezed it in on a travel day. We took the train to & from and left our luggage in a storage luggage locker while we RAN around Rome. We started out with the Trevi fountain, saw the Pantheon and then did the coliseum tour (def buy tickets in advance). After that we were exhausted & HOT, we ate pizza and hopped back onto the train.
This lake is 10 minutes away from Villa Cariola. We are hoping to organize a day or night down here and possibly look into a boat tour of the lake. We loved Lake Como and Lake Garda is very similar to it!
Verona is the city closest to the Villa.
