About Oaxaca

The Wedding Website of Lilli Reamer and Patrick Mercer
Oaxaca (pronounced waa·haa·kuh) is both the name of the state (Oaxaca de Juarez) located in southern Mexico, and the capital city. Most things to do in Oaxaca City are located near the city center, so you’ll often hear locals simply reference “Centro” when talking about things to do or places to eat in the city. When you fly into Oaxaca City, you will take about a 25 min taxi to the city centro where most of the wedding festivities will be held. Below are a few spots we recommend to kickstart exploring the city.

Los Danzantes Oaxaca

Delicious Michelin rated lunch and dinner spot. Reservation recommended in advance by emailing them!

Boulenc

A beloved bakery and breakfast spot. Known for their pastries and coffee to go, or grab a table and enjoy from their full menu.

Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca

Beautiful botanical gardens of Oaxaca. There is one tour everyday, so be sure to arrive early.

Oaxaca en Una Taza

Mexico

Great coffee spot with a gorgeous courtyard in the middle.

Sabina Sabe

Mexico

Fun bar with great cocktails and elevated Mexican street food.

Marchanta

Hierve el Agua

Established hiking paths bring you right up to the cascade's edge where you are able to swim. Our wedding planner will be organizing a tour on Friday (9/4), please reach out to Friederike (oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com) if you are interested in attending.

Monte Albán

Monte Albán is a historical archeological site just 20 min outside of the city. Our wedding planner will be organizing a tour on Friday (9/4), please reach out to Friederike (oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com) if you are interested in attending.

Mezcaloteca

While in Oaxaca, you have to do a mezcal tasting! This is one of our favorites, but there are many in the city.

Selva Oaxaca Cocktail Bar

Cocktail bar.

Criollo

Criollo offers authentic, Michelin rated Oaxaqueña cuisine.

Guajolote de Oro

Fun cocktail bar in the city.

Vino y Vinyl

Late night wine bar with live music.

Mercado 20 de Noviembre

Bustling traditional market with stalls for fresh produce, baked goods & local street foods.

Juana La Vintage

Mexico

For all the vintage shoppers! One of the most fun secondhand stores (for clothing).

Fábrica de Vidrio la Luz Oaxaca

Mexico

Amazing glassware store.

Tierra Del Sol

Highly rated rooftop restaurant with scenic views and delicious food.
