It was January 2018... Katie and Patrick were both students at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh; Katie a sophomore in Biology, and Pat a junior in Marketing. They were in two different schools, two totally different tracks, and had never met each other. Duquesne had two major study-abroad programs: one in Rome, Italy and one in Dublin, Ireland. The program in Rome was by far the most popular, as they were able to host upwards of 60 students at one time. The Dublin program, however, could only take a max of 20 students. Patrick actually planned to go to Dublin the year prior. But something got messed up with his schedule, and he had to push his trip back to Spring 2018 instead... Katie and Pat met for the very first time on 15 January 2018, in the living room of St. Michael's House, the gorgeous brick mansion set on Ailesbury Road where they got to live while studying in Dublin. Katie swears that from the moment she saw him, she knew there was something "meant to be." Their first "official" date was a month later, on Valentine's Day, at their local pub, The Merrion Inn. Over the next few months, they spent countless hours at The Merrion, getting to know each other, drinking Guinness, and eating the best chicken wings EVER. They travelled all over Ireland together, meeting wonderful people, soaking up the culture, and truly falling in love. Pat's mom came to visit and met Katie for the first time on 27 March. Coincidentally, Katie's parents flew in that same day and got to meet Patrick for the first time too! They had to say goodbye to Ireland and each other on 21 May 2018. They had been nearly inseparable for almost 4 months, but Katie had to go back to Pennsylvania, while Pat went home to Maine. Despite the distance, their relationship remained strong. When they returned to Duquesne they were inseparable once more. Patrick graduated in 2019, then Katie in 2020. Katie moved to Maine in May of 2020, and has lived there with Pat ever since. They've returned to Ireland 3 more times since their first trip back in 2018. During one of these return trips, on 3 June 2023, Patrick proposed to Katie right in front of St. Michael's House, the place where they first met and began their wonderful relationship. Now, more than 8 years since their first encounter, Katie and Patrick would like to invite their closest friends and family to come celebrate their love and marriage in their absolute favorite place in the world!
