Things To Do

We really appreciate that many of you are coming from further afield, so may make a trip of it and have a bit more time on your hands to explore the west coast of Ireland. There's a few recommendations here to keep you busy. Everything listed is within an hour drive of Creegh (including the day visit to Scattery Island). If you've a few more days, we'd highly recommend taking the Wild Atlantic Way south towards Kerry and the west of Cork. Taking the Wild Atlantic Way north towards Connemara National Park won't disappoint either! Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Doolin and go and explore the Aran Islands for a couple of nights. If you've any specific query or want recommendations for elsewhere in Ireland, please do drop us a line.
Loop Head Lighthouse

Loop Head Lighthouse

Kilbaha South, CE, Ireland

Most westerly point in County Clare. Explore the lighthouse, enjoy the clifftop views over the Atlantic, and grab some lunch nearby.

Kilkee Cliffs

Kilkee Cliffs

Moveen West, CE, Ireland

Walk the cliff tops at Kilkee (surfaced path) and stop at Diamond Rocks cafe for coffee and cake.

Cliffs of Moher

Cliffs of Moher

Lislorkan North, CE, Ireland

Walk around and take in the sights of the Cliffs of Moher. Very popular with tourists. More dramatic than Kilkee, but also more busy!

The Burren Perfumery

The Burren Perfumery

Fahee North, CE, Ireland
, +353 65 708 9102

Drive up in to the Burren and stop in the Burren Perfumery to snoop around and have a coffee. Good to tie in with Father Ted's House and a walk in the Burren National Park.

Burren National Park Walks

Burren National Park Walks

Knockaunroe, CE, Ireland

Burren National Park is the best part of an hour from Creegh, but plenty of great walks and the Burren Perfumery and Father Ted's House are in the same area. Get in touch if you want more detail on walks.

Fr. Teds House

Fr. Teds House

Killinaboy, CE, Ireland
, +353 87 921 4694

Drive by the infamous house from Father Ted - it's private so you'll need to view it from the road, but it's not too small or far away! Note: tie in with a visit to the Burren, don't go all that way just to see the house!

Doughmore Bay

Doughmore Bay

Carrowmore, CE, Ireland

Doughmore Bay is almost a stone throw from Creegh with a long, wide sandy beach backed by dunes. Absolutely do not swim here though (rip tides), but it's perfect for a paddle and a beach walk. It's a bit trickier to find - but park where the link is, head across the road and follow the gravel path over the golf course. You can also get there by parking at Trump International.

Spanish Point Beach

Spanish Point Beach

Spanish Point, CE, Ireland

Sandy beach right next to Armada Hotel. Safe to swim between flags. Friendly, organised sea swim every morning at 9am - rain or shine! Armada Hotel is a short walk from the beach and has hot drinks and snacks.

White Strand Beach, Doonbeg

White Strand Beach, Doonbeg

Killard, CE, Ireland

Great family beach in Doonbeg - safe to swim at, and sandy. Be careful at beaches on the west coast as several are more exposed or prone to rip tides.

Scattery Island (from Kilrush)

Scattery Island (from Kilrush)

Scattery Island, CE, Ireland

Take a short ferry out to Scattery Island from Kilrush and explore the monastic sites.

Lahinch

Lahinch

Great little town to go and have a mooch around, or even try your hand at surfing if your feeling adventurous.

Ennistymon

Ennistymon

Ennistimon, CE, Ireland

Another great little town to go and have a mooch around - same direction as Lahinch too so you can cover both in one trip.

Ennis

Ennis

Ennis, CE, Ireland

Ennis is the biggest town nearby - so if you want more variety in terms of bars, restaurants, shopping, cinema, etc - head up there. Best port of call nearby if you forgot anything (clothes, shoes, etc)!

Kilrush

Kilrush

Kilrush, CE, Ireland

Kilrush is the nearest town to Creegh. It's small, but it's the best place to go for food supplies etc with an Aldi, Tesco, and SuperValu located here. There's also quite a few shops, cafes, and bars - just don't expect Oxford Street!
