Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

Anchorage is your main Alaskan hub. If you can, grab a window seat, and pray for nice weather. The mountains are incredible, and you'll have a lot of daylight to soak it in. Keep your eyes out for flash sales on flights, but don't wait until the last minute to buy! You're coming in at the beginning of tourist season, and we make a lot of our money off tourists... Ted Stevens is an international airport, so most major airlines fly in and out. Here are our favorites: Alaska Airlines (go figure) JetBlue (seasonal) ...there are others as well, so choose whichever one works best for you. You'll be covering a lot of ground, so make sure you're getting those mileage points!

Kenai Municipal Airport

The Kenai Municipal Airport is only a 25 minute flight from Anchorage. It's also roughly 20 minutes from our house. Rental cars are available here as well, but they book quickly in the summer, and are EXPENSIVE. Book through Grant Aviation or Ravn Air.

Camping

There are a number of campgrounds in/near Sterling. Moose River has a couple, or the Skilak Loop has multiple larger campgrounds. You’re also welcome to pitch a tent in our backyard. If you need help tracking one down, contact us! ** Please be aware, you will be camping in bear territory. Plan accordingly.

If you're looking to save some $$$, start looking at your lodging options NOW. Keep in mind, we run a little behind the times, so don't judge a book by its website. Cabins on the river will be more expensive, and are typically in high demand as we get closer to fishing and floating season. If you will have a reliable tent or camper, there are also a number of campgrounds in the area. Start your search here: 1. Sterling (where we live) 2. Soldotna (15 minutes away) 3. Kenai (25 minutes away) If you're getting outside those areas, that's fine, you'll just be adding on drive time. When in doubt, ask us for help!
