A family favorite. Beautiful views of Sutro Baths, the Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Some of the best views in the city! Micah and Patti went here the very first day they met (see picture of Patti, Micah, and his cousins) back in the summer after their freshman year of high school.
Another place with amazing views of the city. Also where Patti and Micah had their first date, a few days before officially becoming a couple! You can see Patti's high school, Burton, from the backside. Checkout local coffee and food on Cortland St.
Clifftop trail and beaches. But be ready for wind and many (many!) dogwalkers.
Old favorite where Patti took prom photos. Also recommend stopping by Crissy Fields and walking over to Fort Point for beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Everywhere in Golden Gate Park is wonderful. Stop by this area to see some real life bison, who were brought here to combat extinction. This is where Patti ran cross country meets in high school and took her first art classes as a little kid. To get food nearby, we recommend going to Irving St.
A unique science museum with lots of hands-on experiments. Micah and Patti have gone here with friends, and Patti has many memories of visiting as a kid with her family, friends, and especially her grandparents. The museum is close to Pier 39 and the Ferry Building.
One of Patti's favorite museums in the city. Huge museum with a lot of fun for all ages. Make sure you don't miss the aquarium downstairs with Patti's favorite, the spotted garden eels. The museum is located in the Music Concourse of Golden Gate Park, near the Japanese Tea Gardens and the DeYoung. Patti performed here many times with her high school marching band.
Patti used to stop by here nearly every week before work in high school. Also one of the couple's memorable date spots. There's always some unique contemporary artists on view on the sixth floor, as well as the museums main collection with some great Calder mobiles, Julie Mehretu murals, and sometimes - Patti's favorite - Louise Bourgeois' maman spiders.
A bigger trip, involving a ferry across the bay. See cool views, go on hikes, and visit the Angel Island Immigration Station to learn about the history of immigration to the west coast, including the detention, interrogation, and Chinese (and other Asian) exclusion.
Head across the Golden Gate to see the city from the other side, with beautiful views, hikes, and birdwatching. Patti used to go here every month in middle school for her environmental club, and it was the first place she saw her favorite bird - the peregrine falcon.
Many Asian restaurants, cafes, and bakeries. Good place to go if you're visiting Golden Gate Park. (On the north side of the park, check out Clement St.)
One of Patti's favorite Asian dessert cafes. Highly recommend going a block north and checking out Clement St, where there are great Chinese food and shops. There is also a location on Octavia St. near Civic Center.
Right around the corner from where Patti was born and raised, Mission St is the place to go if you want to experience the place that makes her who she is. El Farolito is her top taqueria recommendation (go across the street to Guadalajara for burritos). She also recommends the panaderia, Pacitas Salvadorian Bakery on Mission and Persia (taste of her childhood), Mr. T for boba (taste of middle school and high school), An Chi for Vietnamese food (taste of young adulthood), and Good Orchard for Chinese buns (taste of her whole life, you could say).
This is where Patti took dance as a kid (at the Mission Cultural Center) and frequently visited for the food, murals, and community.
You can't go to San Francisco and not go to Chinatown. There's so much history here, including the founding of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the grandmother church of Patti's Redeemer Community Church. Lots of places to eat and shop. We recommend stopping by the Chinese Historical Society of America Museum.
