Take One: When We First Began

We met on the popular dating app, “Plenty of Fish” in October of 2018. After about a week of intriguing phone conversations, we decided it was time to meet in person. Due to our schedules, the only time we could link up was on a Monday night at 11pm after he got off from work. We met up at the 24 hour Subway in Laplace and we connected instantly! Neither of us ate, and we sat and talked for HOURS about our families, past experiences, interests and future goals. Before we knew it, the sun was coming up. We had been there for 7 hours! That night was the beginning of a remarkable journey. We walked into this relationship with open hearts and the desire to just follow GOD’s will for our lives. We’re so grateful that THIS was all in HIS plan, and we are ECSTATIC about spending forever together.

Take Two: The Proposal

The day started out with what I was told would be prep for a fancy family date night. Alton took the boys for haircuts while Azyri, Jo and I went for a much needed mani/pedi session. He called a few times to tell me to be home by 4, so that we wouldn’t be late for this dinner with the “paid 7:30 reservation.” I made it home in time and was reminded every 5 minutes that I needed to hurry bc I’m ALWAYS late. I cut it close, but I made it to the car at 6:30 on the dot. Once we got on the bridge, he got a text from “Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse” confirming his 8:30 reservation. He was upset and called because he thought the reservation was at 7:30. The hostess (who I later found out was his cousin, NeNe) confirmed that it was indeed 8:30. When he hung up, he suggested we take a walk in Lafreniere Park to kill time. We got to the park and strolled slowly toward the back. When we walked over the bridge, there was a couple getting married who were posing for pictures. After we walked past them, Alton asked if I heard violins. I heard, but didn’t see them, and figured they were for the wedding. By the time I noticed the violinist, I’d also noticed a lady standing directly across from us with a video camera. Still, I thought it was for the wedding. Little did I know, it was all for ME! He asked me if I’d dance with him if he requested a song. He asked and she started playing KCi & JoJo’s “All My Life”, and I realized what was happening. He took my hand and we started what was SUPPOSED to be dancing. By that point, we were both emotional and Alton was struggling through his speech. We laughed and cried and had to remind each other to move because we were supposed to be dancing. LOL. He got down on one knee, Azyri came over with the ring, he asked and I SAID YESSS!!! I can’t remember half of what he said, but I’ll NEVER forget how I felt! I was even more elated when I found out our friends and family were in on the secret. I still cry just thinking about it. Best day ever❤️
