For regional trains, you can buy tickets right at the station from a machine or ticket counter. Just remember to validate paper tickets in the little machines before boarding. For high-speed trains (like Florence ↔ Rome), it’s best to book online in advance for the lowest prices and to guarantee a seat. Your online ticket will come with a QR code and doesn’t need validation.
