We had been acquaintances for a few years. We knew each other's names, because we served in KIDS ministry together, but that was about it! Jess' version: So, I got a text from Adrian asking if I would go out on a date with Chris, and I respectfully declined. A few months later, Chris, his roommate Jackson, and their friend Lucy Anne, decided they really wanted some ice cream. They came into Lick where I was currently working (taking a much needed break from Social Work), and it got real awkward. I had just told him no a few months ago. But, he was SO NICE AND NORMAL. I changed my mind. I told Adrian to tell Daniel that yes, I WOULD go out on that date with him...if he still wanted to go. It took a few weeks for Daniel to remember to tell Chris, but he called me up we went on that date. The rest is history. Chris' version: My friends Abby, Blair, and Daniel were at dinner and spent the entire evening brainstorming girls for me to go out with. Daniel texted me a couple days later asking if I would be interested in taking Jess out, and since I have a thing for attractive, small, white women who love Jesus, I, of course, said yes. She definitely said no. Oh well. Fast forward three months, and Jackson REALLY wanted ice cream. So, we walk into Lick, and lo and behold, a huge slap of awkward hits me as Jess is standing there HAVING TO SCOOP MY ICE CREAM. Somehow I push past the elephant in the room and proceed to make not awkward small talk. I sat down with Jackson and Lucy Anne afterward and they both asked me, "who was THAT? She's CUTE." And I all I could say was "uhh...yeah, no." I finished my ice cream and walked out, glad I would never have to see Jess again. Turns out, my incredible charm had won her over, as I got a text from Daniel a couple weeks later saying Jess in fact DID want to go out on a date with me. Turns out, it was just because I seemed normal and nice. Turns out, I'm a pretty good faker. Turns out, I met my future wife that day.
