This hike is an easy one that is great for families with small children and older folks too. The gentle 2.1 mile loop is well maintained and follows Spooner Lake and provides nice views and several Aspen groves. Nice for fall colors as well. Directions: Drive to Spooner Summit on Highway 50, turn north onto Highway 28 near the top. Less than a mile on the right will be the Nevada State Park. The lot has a parking fee.
On its eastern shores, gently sloping beaches, crystal-clear water and interesting rock formations allow for wonderfully sublime swimming, kayaking and scuba diving at Sand Harbor. Visitors can picnic in the shade of cedars and Jeffrey pines in one of many picnic sites equipped with barbecues and tables.
Take a panoramic 10 minute ride that climbs 2,000 vertical feet and soars above a mountainscape of granite rock, waterfalls and the iconic Tram Face. And that's just the beginning. Once you reach your destination at High Camp, located at 8,200', breathe in the fresh mountain air and immerse yourself in the High Sierra.
