Flight

Airports

There are two international airports on the island of Crete, one in Chania (located on the Western side of the island), the other in Heraklion (located on the Eastern side of the island). The wedding venue is near Rethymno, which is located in the center of the island; therefore, you can choose whichever airport is easiest. For those flying internationally, there are not many direct flights into Crete; so you will most likely need to fly into Athens (or another European destination) and take a second flight to the island. We understand that many will be traveling a very long way to get to Crete, but we promise it will be worth your while!

Rental Car

Chania

Crete is a large island. If you choose to fly into Chania, the drive time from the airport to Rethymno will be about 1 hour. Therefore, we highly recommend a rental car, especially if you plan to explore more of the island throughout your stay. Please keep in mind, for those traveling internationally, an international drivers license will be required. Please click on the link below for more information on reserving a car in Chania. Additional information on the international drivers license can be found in the travel note below.

Heraklion

Heraklion, 71408, Greece

The drive time from Heraklion is also about 1 hour. There are local buses and taxis that can take you to Rethymno, but if you'd like to have as much flexibility as possible during your time in Crete, the most convenient means of transportation would be a rental car. You can always plan to carpool with friends and family as well! For family traveling from Athens or other parts of Greece or Cyrus, there are ferries to Crete that allow for brining your own car.

Travel Note

Drivers license

If you are renting a car, please make sure to apply for an international drivers license by visiting the link provided. The application process is simple and shouldn't take too much time to complete. The driver will be required to provide an international drivers license upon picking up the vehicle. As a side note, please make sure all international traveler's passports are up-to-date! The renewal process can take several months, so please plan accordingly.

Travel Note

taxi & bus

If you don't want to rent a car, there are taxis and buses that can take you from the airport to Rethymno. Please see the link provided below for more information on getting to and from Heraklion to Rethymno. For the day of the wedding, we are offering complimentary bus services to take guests to and from the venue. The pickup location will be at the Municipal Gardens in downtown Rethymno. The bus will depart by 3:15pm for an arrival time of 3:30pm. Municipal Gardens Address: Igoumenou Gavriil, Rethymno 741 32, Greece

Hotel

Accommodation

There are many options when it comes to accommodation, including boutique hotels, luxury resorts, charming Airbnbs and budget friendly hotels. We are leaving it up to each guest/family to determine what is right for them. That said, since there will be a shuttle service to and from Old Town Rethymno for the wedding, we highly recommend staying nearby. Otherwise, if you choose to stay closer to the venue and drive, there is parking available at Agreco Farm. Keep in mind, it will be high-season in Greece, which means that tourism will be in full swing and accommodations will get booked up. We highly recommend reserving your accommodations now if you haven't done so already. We've already booked our Airbnb!
