Max Patch Loop is a 1.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail at an elevation of 4,500 feet located near Hot Springs, North Carolina. The Appalachian Trail crosses it, and the 360-degree views are like being on top of the world.
The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 6.4 miles and the hike is generally considered moderate in difficulty. It takes about 3-4 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. A pleasant walk through hemlock and rhododendron forest leads you to a picturesque picnic spot by a waterfall.
Mount Cammerer via Low Gap Trail is a 11.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Cosby, Tennessee that features a river and is rated as difficult. The hike takes you up to a restored fire tower originally built by the WPA. The views from the trail itself are great, but the view from the tower site is simply the best in the Smokies.
It’s a 6.7-mile round-trip hike from the Maddron Bald Trailhead that involves close to 1,500 feet of elevation gain. Give yourself four or five hours to fully appreciate the journey and its unique destination. The Albright Grove Loop Trail takes you to one of the true magic zones in Great Smoky Mountains National Park among its most magnificent old-growth forests, including a 600-year-old Tulip Poplar.

A quick hour from Christopher Place, Asheville offers fine dining and arts & craft communities, as well as the Biltmore Estate & Village. Biltmore Estate, Gardens, and Winery is well worth the hour’s drive across the mountains to visit the largest private residence in the country.
