Come join the fun!

Question

What is an Anand Karaj?

Answer

An Anand Karaj is a Sikh wedding ceremony. It is performed in a Gurdwara (Sikh temple).

Question

What do I wear to an Anand Karaj?

Answer

Women - Women typically wear a kurta. This is an Indian suit that is similar to leggings and a tunic. In addition, women need to cover their head. Typically women wear a dupatta, which is a scarf-like cloth wrapped around their head. While in the Gurdwara, shoes are not allowed. During the ceremony, people are to sit on the ground, so wear something nice, but comfortable (e.g., nice pants, jumpsuit, long dress/skirt, etc.)! Men - Men typically wear a kurta, as well. Just like women, men need to cover their head. Men either wear a turban or use a bandanna to tie around their head. While in the Gurdwara, shoes are not allowed. During the ceremony, people are to sit on the ground, so wear something nice, but comfortable (e.g., dress pants, dress shirt, etc.)!

Question

What can I expect on Sunday, July 4?

Answer
