We will be taking a taxi to Dublin from the airport. We will then rent a car Wednesday morning (06/03/26) to travel to the vow renewal venue and return it to the Shannon Airport when we fly to Scotland. We will also be renting a car in Scotland, but it may not be necessary depending on where you are planning to go. It is highly recommended to rent a car. Public transport in Ireland is good between major cities (like Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Limerick), but rural routes are limited or infrequent. A car gives you total control over your schedule — you can stop for photos, take scenic detours, and explore hidden gems like: - The Ring of Kerry - Connemara National Park - The Dingle Peninsula - The Causeway Coast (in Northern Ireland) Without a car, many of these spots are either hard or impossible to reach by bus or train.
In Ireland, the power outlets and voltage are different from those in the U.S., so you’ll need both a plug adapter and possibly a voltage converter, depending on your devices. Here’s what to know: 🔌 1. Plug Type Ireland uses Type G plugs — the same as the UK. Type G has three rectangular prongs in a triangular pattern. U.S. plugs (Type A/B) will not fit, so you need a plug adapter. 🧳 What to buy: A U.S. → Ireland (Type G) plug adapter — small and inexpensive, available at Amazon, airports, or travel stores. ⚡ 2. Voltage Ireland: 230 volts / 50 Hz U.S.: 120 volts / 60 Hz This means Ireland’s voltage is almost double that of the U.S. 🔋 What this means for you: Many modern electronics (like laptops, phones, cameras) are dual-voltage — check the label on your charger. If it says “Input: 100–240V, 50/60Hz,” you’re safe with just the plug adapter. High-powered appliances like hair dryers, straighteners, or electric shavers from the U.S. usually are not dual-voltage — these will need a voltage converter or a travel-sized dual-voltage model.
