Mexican Pesos and ATMs
Answer
Only the more upscale hotels and restaurants accept credit cards and you definitely want to have cash on hand since ATMs on the island are very hard to come by. You can take up to $250 US in pesos at the Cancun airport when you arrive (you can do 2-3 transactions if you want). But if you're staying for a bit you may want to get pesos before you leave the US. $500 US will last you about a week per person if you're also using your credit card a bit.

There are no cars on the island. People use golf carts including the taxis. If there's a torrential downpour get ready for an adventure! We took 3 taxis in the span of 11 days - you can walk or bike everywhere.

- your passport! - sunscreen - a hat - bug spray - beach sandals - warm layers for the evening - sunglasses - resort wear to kick back and chill - bathing suit/s - something to lie on the beach if you don't want a hotel towel - a beach chic wedding outfit: want to wear white? we'd love it! (prepare to be in the sand for the wedding - no heels)
