Whether you walk, bike, kayak or paddleboard, the Hike and Bike Trail is an iconic way to take in the sights. With more then 10 miles of trails, the Hike and Bike Trail runs along Lady Bird Lake and connects you to classic Austin hang-outs like Zilker Park, Barton Springs, and Auditorium Shores.
Though the water may be a bit chilly in April, Lake Austin is beautiful year-round. For those trying to stay dry, enjoy the lake views and grab a coffee at Mozart's Coffee Roasters or take advantage of the panoramic vistas available at the Pennybacker Bridge Overlook.
Grab your cowboy hat and boots and get to two-stepping! Be warned: the Broken Spoke is a bit of a dive, but it's the most famous dance hall in Austin. With lessons and live music offered every night, the Broken Spoke is the perfect place to two-step for both beginners and experts alike.
The city's unofficial motto is to "Keep Austin Weird" and South Congress encompasses this feeling. With countless options for shopping and food, walking around South Congress can be a great way to get to see some original Austin spots. For food, we recommend grabbing some coffee from Jo's (and checking out the "I love you so much" mural while you're at it), grabbing a slice of pizza from Home Slice or sitting out on the deck at Perla's, and don't forget to stop by Amy's Ice Cream or Big Top for some dessert. Around sunset, make your way to the South Congress bridge to watch the world's largest urban bat colony emerge from their homes and fly out over the lake.
Come see where we got engaged! Located slightly west of Austin in the beautiful hill country, Commons Ford is our favorite park with a little bit of everything: hiking, sunbathing, birding and more! Check out the waterfall trails, suntan on the lawn by the lake or tip-toe into the quiet birding area and let Victor know if you spot the elusive Golden-Cheeked Warbler.
