The Tale of The Dr. Alvarez's

During Yimika's first year of emergency medicine residency, she had a patient with an abnormal ECG so she consulted cardiology. When she looked at the pager system, she saw Dr. Chikezie Alvarez, the first year cardiology fellow, was on call. Confused as to whether Dr. Chikezie Alvarez was Nigerian or Hispanic, she paged him nonetheless. Additional confusion struck once she heard his accent. Yimika: Are you Nigerian? Chike: Do I sound Nigerian? I'm from Trinidad. You sound like you're from Barbados Yimika: Everyone says that, but I'm actually Nigerian A bunch of flirty banter later, we came up with a plan for the patient. There was something about the interaction that just felt different and riveting. We continued to chat through the hospital secure chat messaging - about the patient of course! Yimika put her big girl pants on and gave Chikezie her number and instantly regretted it. Does he have a girlfriend? Is he married? Is he married with children? Oh boy - it seemed like it was time to go to sleep. Yimika woke up the next morning to a text message from Chikezie. All the electricity from the night before was still present. We went from texting to calling each other and soon graduated to FaceTime. A week later, we planned to hang out unsure of what the future held for us. The anticipation of meeting one another was even more exciting and electric. Chikezie knocked on Yimika's apartment door and she truly developed supraventricular tachycardia. They embraced as if they were longtime friends, despite only being in communication for a week. They initially had plans to go to dinner but 12 hours later, after swapping life stories, it was evident that the sparks they both felt was absolutely real. Almost 4 years later, they travelled to Nigeria and Chikezie got down on his knees and proposed to Yimika. She said YES! Cheers to a lifetime together! For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'till death do us part!
