Matron of Honor
Meet Marley: Devon’s big sister and original best friend! These two have been attached at the hip since day one. Fun fact: Devon actually took up swimming just to spend more time with Marley. Mar has always been a kind and welcoming role model in Dev's life, and even taught Dev how to drive (not well!). It’s hard to pick a favorite memory from a lifetime of adventures, but being the Maid of Honor at Marley’s 2022 wedding tops the list. Also honorable mention for when she and Luci kidnapped Dev and took her to a Lil Wayne concert.
Matron of Honor
Meet Luci: Originally Marley’s friend, but in true "annoying little sister" fashion, Devon successfully weaseled her way into a lifelong friendship of her own! Their bond goes deep, from growing up together in Owego to surviving grueling swim practices on the same team at St. Bonaventure. Luci has always been a wise, older presence in Devon’s life (well... most of the time). While they’ve shared more hours in the pool together than anyone else, Devon’s favorite memories are much dryer- specifically, visiting Patton at Penn State and the legendary summer of 2013. If you know, you know!
Bridesmaid
Meet Olivia: Devon’s friend since literally day one! Born just weeks apart to parents who were longtime friends, these two were destined for a lifelong bond. Growing up together in Owego, they spent their days biking through town, playing in the snow, and obsessing over the neighborhood “haunted house” (which, looking back, was definitely just an abandoned building). Her favorite memories with Olivia include running the bingo table at the town of Spencer field days, and being a bridesmaid in her wedding.
Bridesmaid
Meet Anya: Devon and Anya’s friendship started years ago on the Owego Free Academy pool deck. Drawn to Anya’s upbeat, high-energy personality, Devon made sure they became fast friends, even convincing Anya to keep coming back to the swim team season after season. Between endless swim practices and lifeguarding shifts, they were always together. Devon’s favorite memories include a daring kayak "escape" from Raquette Lake, finessing Green Monster tickets at Fenway, and their high school mixtape empire (FBI if you are reading this we are totally kidding).
Bridesmaid
Meet Maddie: She might be Owen’s older sister, but over the last three years, Devon and Maddie have become great friends! With a shared love for biking, the great outdoors, and a good time with friends, they were an instant match. Since relocating to Maddie’s home city of Seattle, they’ve been able to log even more quality time together. Devon’s highlight reel with Maddie includes visiting her in Williamstown and their many biking excursions but the absolute top memory has to be the infamous "hot tub boat shrinkage incident."
Bridesmaid
Meet Alyssa (aka: "Dev's Canadian Roommate"): These two met on move-in day freshman year at St. Bonaventure. When Devon walked in to find Alyssa hanging a Justin Bieber poster, the "indie rock girl" in her had some serious hesitations... but those didn't last long! Alyssa and Devon became immediate best friends and teammates, rooming together every single year of college. Alyssa’s legendary sense of humor and easygoing personality made those some of the best years of Devon’s life. From "Rock N Roll Wednesdays" and adopting their "trap cat" Harley junior year, to celebrating at Alyssa’s bachelorette in Canada, the memories are as unforgettable as that first Bieber poster.
Bridesmaid
Meet Mick: Devon and Mick met on their very first night at St. Bonaventure. True to form, Devon was already scheming to get the freshman class to a house party, and Mick was an immediate "yes girl." Devon was instantly drawn to Mick’s gritty, hilarious, and hardworking Boston personality. Devon will never forget watching Mick grind through brutal distance swimmer practices without a single complaint. Her favorite memory with Mick? Being verbally assaulted at Bills vs. Patriots games because Mick had the audacity to wear a Gronk jersey in the middle of Bills Mafia.
Bridesmaid
Meet Maria: A key member of the freshman "Squad" at Bonas! Being from Philadelphia with the maiden name Rocchi (pronounced Rocky), Maria quickly became the group's resident little fighter. Devon was immediately drawn to her cheerful, high-energy, "take-no-crap" personality. As a backstroker and breaststroker duo, these two spent their college years back-to-back in the 200 medley relay. They are proud to report that after dozens of transitions, they never DQ’d, although it's been veryyyy close! Devon’s favorite memories with Maria include her Eagles-themed bachelorette party and their legendary 16 hours in Nashville.
Bridesmaid
Meet Emily: Another essential member of the freshman squad! Emily played a huge role in Devon’s four years at Bonas, holding the undisputed title of the most responsible person in their class (the bar was low). Always the level-headed and protective "mom" of the group, Emily has been a kind and caring anchor for Dev since day one. They especially bonded during the summer they lived together at Bonas, where they officially became "townies" spending their days training, their nights bartending, and everything in between. Dev’s favorite memories with Em include celebrating at Emily’s own wedding and those summer nights spent hanging out on Anchor’s porch.
Best Man
Meet Dylan: Dylan and Owen met on Owen's first night of college and have been best friends since. As a member of Cornell's swim team, Dylan was also a Mechanical Engineering major just like Owen and they shared many classes together where Dylan likes to claim that he did all the work (not true). Graduating a year earlier than Owen, Dylan couldn't bear the thought of not being with him after college and went out of his way to help Owen get a job at the same company he worked at in Rochester so they could live together. Their time in Rochester was well spent involving lots of biking, breweries, and (sometimes a bit too much) whiskey.
Groomsman
Meet Van: Van and Owen spent way too much time together in engineering classes and in the pool at Cornell. There were many late nights in the library leading into early morning practices that made them very close friends. Van is also the kind of person who is down for doing whatever, whenever - except for showing up on time to get driven by Owen to morning practice. It's amazing that Van still likes Owen after Owen left him behind one morning sophomore year when Van was late one too many times :)
Groomsman
Meet Will: As Cornell Men's Swimming and Diving official DJ, Will was kind enough to let Owen on aux at a party every now and then. Typically this happened when Owen would go up to Will and say "Yo can I queue up a song" and Will would roll his eyes and just tell him to take over DJing because he knew that question would just keep coming. Will helped introduce Owen to one of his favorite genres of music, Deep House, and they now spend time sending each other new songs or mixes they find online.
Groomsman
Meet Jack: Jack and Owen were roommates for all 4 years of college. Meeting on the first day of freshmen year, Jack and Owen could immediately tell they were going to be friends because of their mutual love of lasagna. Jack was known as quite the schemer in college and was thus given the title of "Sith Lord". Jack's best scheme in college was senior year when he created a series of fake letters to convince Owen that he was being inducted into a secret society and Owen totally bought it. Jack's scheming didn't stop there. After college, Jack entered the navy as submarine officer and was able to scheme his way into being stationed in Hawaii and southern Spain.
Groomsman
Meet Jacob: Whenever the gang goes on a ski trip, you can always find Jacob because he is the person on the mountain with the most steeze (don't tell Will). Jacob and Owen have shared many bonding moments, but perhaps the most traumatic was when Jack decided he wanted to cook the 3 of us scrambled eggs one morning in college after swim practice. We never knew eggs could be so dry. Jacob and Owen, closer than ever after this shared trauma, hence forth declared that Jack shall not make eggs for anyone again.
Groomsman
Meet Zack: As Devon's brother-in-law married to her sister Marley, Zack has been around the McFadden family for a while and was able to help Owen navigate it when he and Devon first started dating. Owen and Zack quickly became good friends bonding over craft beer, football, and golf - aka Owen placing his ball wherever Zack hits it (usually the middle of the fairway). It's a miracle that Zack is invited to this wedding considering Owen wasn't invited to his (it was before they had met), but it is a testament to their friendship.
Groomsman
Meet Min Zhi: Another member of the Cornell Swim and Mechanical Engineering club, Min Zhi and Owen spend most of their waking hours together either grinding out IM sets in the pool or falling asleep in class after a Friday morning practice. Owen found out that Min Zhi can sleep through just about anything when the two shared a room over training trip in Puerto Rico and an earthquake shook the entire island awake. When frightenly asked by Owen "what was that?", Min Zhi, being the chill Cali boy that he is, simply lifted his head and said "oh... an earthquake" and then promptly put his head down to go back t sleep.
