Let’s be real—it’s 2026. Most people meet online these days. Hinge, Bumble, Match (shout out to Vicky and Glenn). We had both tried them all and had just about given up when, of all places, we met on Facebook Dating. Most people say, “I didn’t even know that was a thing,” and to be fair… it might not be anymore (we genuinely have no idea). But here’s to you, Mark Zuckerberg—you may not know it, but you played a pretty big role in this whole thing. What started as a simple message quickly turned into something neither of us saw coming. Even though much of our relationship, early on, happened just two days at a time while John was flying between projects, it became pretty clear—pretty quickly—that this wasn’t just another dating app story. It was the start of something real. Since then, Bre has almost gotten accustomed to John’s family calling him Ryan (though her brain still glitches a little trying to remember they’re not talking about her brother), and John has almost won over Scout (but has anyone, besides Glenn and Justin?). We’ve traveled, moved in together, adopted Melvin (Scout is still unsure about that one), laughed more than we probably should, and built a life that feels equal parts fun, chaotic, and completely ours. We balance each other out in all the right ways—John cooks and Bre eats, Bre wears headphones to sleep through John’s snoring, and John picks up the empty wrappers Bre leaves everywhere—and somehow, it just works. Now here we are, turning a Facebook Dating success story into a marriage. If you had told us back then where this would end up, we probably wouldn’t have believed you—but we’re really glad it did.
