Casey & Kyle met in Chem class sophomore year of high school (shout out Mr. Guevara). As two of only six sophomores in the class, the two were usually paired as lab partners and became fast friends. They remained friends throughout high school and during college as both went to school in Boston, but never more than that. When Casey moved back to Boston after a brief stint in San Diego after graduation from BC, the two made a point to grab drinks or dinner every few weeks to catch up or hang out with mutual friends.
Casey & Kyle were both invited to a New Year's Eve bash at Casey's cousin Kelly's house in 2015. Casey showed up with a group of friends, Kyle showed up with a jacket full of beer. Oblivious as she was, Casey had no idea Kyle had developed a big crush on her from all the time spent catching up over drinks in the previous months. When midnight hit, Kyle asked Casey who her New Year's kiss was, to which she laughed out loud as she was very single. Kyle proceeded to plant one on her, and she panicked and ran away. Although his initial reaction was "oh sh*t, what did I just do," Kelly convinced Kyle to talk to Casey and ask her out anyway. As nervous as she was that dating could ruin their friendship, Casey took the chance and they've been together ever since!
Over the past five years, Casey & Kyle have had many memorable moments together. They've traveled all over the US, moved in together in DC, and adopted their sweet dog Bean. When COVID hit, the couple spent more time together cooped up in their tiny apartment. Casey had a feeling an engagement would come before the end of the year, but Kyle rarely let on to his plans. Prior to COVID, they loved having date nights on Saturdays by trying new or favorite restaurants in the area, but the two pivoted to takeout on the weekends once the pandemic hit (because #socialdistancing). Saturday, August 8 was no exception! Kyle suggested the pair take the long route along the water to give Bean a good walk en route to picking up their meal. Little did she know he had ulterior motives. Casey decided to work out about an hour before they had to leave to get their food, and since it was already so hot outside she decided to wait until after their walk to shower. Already sweating from being so nervous, Kyle asked if she was sure about that decision, not wanting to push his normal line of "you stink, go shower" for fear she would catch on to his plan. So shower she didn't, and the two masked up and set off on their walk. Kyle was pretty quiet, but Casey didn't think much of it. The pair eventually reached the bridge by the water, and once they got to the end Kyle pulled out a bowtie they had bought for Bean for special occasions. Casey immediately had questions (shocking) and didn't understand why a bowtie was needed for a walk. Until Kyle got down on one knee and blurted out "will you marry me?" She immediately said yes and gave him crap for not making her shower and look cute, Kyle was relieved (I mean, the man's back was drenched!), and Bean was the cutest wingman there ever was.
