What used to be a streetcar storage and maintenance facility has been transformed into a hip marketplace and eatery, featuring a variety of food vendors, bars and shops. There is an outdoor patio where you can watch boats go by while you sip a cocktail or espresso. Liz and Dave recommend the Horchata latté from Union Coffee.
The Tampa Riverwalk runs through downtown along the Hillsborough River. It begins (or ends) at the Tampa History Center, next to Amelie Arena where the Tampa Lightning play hockey. The Columbia Cafe in the the History Center also happens to be a great place to have a mojito or sangria and enjoy a view of the channel. Along the riverwalk you'll pass the Sail Pavilion, Plant Hall (a historic hotel with distinctive minarets, now part of the University of Tampa), Curtis Hixon park and many more attractions. You may even see the Gasparilla Pirate Ship docked near the convention center.
Supposedly, the world's longest continuous sidewalk stretching 4.5 miles along the waters of Tampa Bay. Enjoy views of stately homes, Derek Jeter's mansion and maybe even see a dolphin or two if you're lucky. City Bikes are available to rent along the way.
Enjoy some of our favorite places to grab a coffee and/or bite to eat - Buddy Brew Coffee, Bar Taco (best margaritas!) and On Swann. Hyde Park features some great shopping and local vendors.
This is Channelside's answer to Armature Works; a waterfront destination with food, a biergarten (mostly Florida craft beers), live music and such; almost entirely outdoors so plan accordingly.
This park is situated along the river overlooking the Straz Performing Arts Center. There are stand-up paddle boards and kayaks for rent at the River Center. You may even see a dragon boat or crew team practicing.
About a half-hour's drive west will bring you to the beaches. St. Pete is a good one, along with Pass-a-Grille, Treasure Island and Clearwater. There is public parking, people will gladly rent you an umbrella if you so desire and there are many places to eat up and down the beach.
This historic part of Tampa is not only where the wedding takes place. It has a large Cuban influence, as you may notice by the multitude of cigar shops. 7th Avenue is a bit like Bourbon Street in New Orleans but not quite as sketchy; the architecture, balconies and overall vibe will be evident. Looking for an experience? Try having a shot and a beer for $2 at Gaspar's Grotto, get pizza from the window of the Italian Club or dance on the bar at Coyote Ugly. There is a free streetcar that runs from here to Channelside and downtown (where the hotel is).
The Sail is partially under construction but an interesting stop to make in the heart of the city. It overlooks the channels where Tampa Bay meets the Hillsborough River. There are a variety of water activities offered here, from stand-up paddle boarding, water bikes, and kayaks to the Pirate Water Taxi or Kraken pedal boat (a BYOB pedal pub where those sitting at the "bar" can contribute pedal power to drive the propeller).
Situated next to what used to be Hulk Hogan's Beach Restaurant and Perpetual Pool Party, this is a spot from which jet skis can be rented. They also have those jetpack devices and fishing charters. If you're interested in getting out on the water, this is one place you can do it.
