Our Story

First classmates, now soulmates

On a warm Saturday afternoon in May, Ame was celebrating a joint medical school/college graduation party with his sister. Ori and her family had been invited to honor a “family friend” she had never actually met. Little did she know, that tiny detail was about to change both of their lives forever. The moment Ori walked through the door, their parents wasted no time making introductions. What began as a simple handshake quickly turned into a jaw-dropping discovery: their families had known each other years earlier in Nigeria. They had attended the same church, gone to the same primary school, and had even shared the same kindergarten classroom. Long before they ever truly knew one another, God had already been quietly weaving their story together. Ame, despite being the guest of honor, was instantly captivated. The only problem was that he kept getting pulled away by family, friends, and well-wishers throughout the party. Still, even in the middle of all the chaos, neither of them could shake the feeling that this meeting was different. By the end of the night, they exchanged numbers and made plans to meet for coffee that Monday — just to continue the conversation they never got to finish. That coffee date turned into something neither of them expected. He ordered a cold brew; she ordered a latte — two people who, thankfully, took their relationship as seriously as their coffee. Sitting across from one another, they quickly realized how much they had in common. The conversation flowed effortlessly, with the kind of ease that only comes when you meet someone who feels strangely familiar. By the time their cups were empty, they were both completely drawn in. What kept their relationship growing was Ori’s calm, steady presence and Ame’s intentional pursuit. Even with miles between Baltimore and Virginia, their connection only grew stronger. The distance never weakened what they had; if anything, it made them more certain that they had found something rare. So when the moment finally felt right, Ame decided it was time to ask the most important question of all — and no, not “Would you like another coffee?” On a beautiful beach far from home, with the waves creating the perfect soundtrack, he got down on one knee and asked Ori to spend forever with him. She said yes. To this day, they both believe their story was divinely orchestrated. From two children unknowingly sharing a kindergarten classroom in Nigeria, to two adults reconnecting over coffee years later, their love story feels less like coincidence and more like God’s perfect timing all along.
