In October 2010, Kyle & his friends were visiting a friend at Shenandoah University, where Grace was a freshman. They ended up crossing paths at a party & ended up talking all night. Ultimately, they went their separate ways. In June 2015, Kyle was living in Fairfax and working at the airport for Enterprise while Grace had accepted a rehab aide position at VHC & was preparing to move to Arlington. While Grace was cat-sitting for her cousin, she was swiping on Tinder & matched with Kyle, instantly remembering the cute guy she’d met at the party years before. Kyle’s friend Keefer was in town so Kyle invited her out with them. The three of them had a great time but Kyle decided they needed a proper first date, so a few days later they went to the movies. Kyle & Grace made their relationship official on 8/23/15. While they had more than their fair share of challenges in the first few months, they became closer as a result, enjoying apple picking, Halloween, meeting each others’ families, & plenty of beer festivals. Grace always dreamed of becoming an OT & in 2016, she was accepted into the doctoral OT program at Mary Baldwin. With Kyle’s full support, she moved to Fishersville. The long distance was tough but they made it work. In August 2018, Kyle took Grace on her first south-of-the-border trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. On Sunday 8/12/18, while preparing to go to dinner, Kyle kept insisting that they needed to dress up. They had a lovely dinner, with Grace none-the-wiser about what was going to happen. While the live band played “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, Kyle asked a family dining nearby if they would take a picture, stealthily asking them to keep the camera on video instead. While Grace started to pose, Kyle got down on one knee. Grace was completely caught off guard, asking “are you serious??” multiple times (she finally said “yes”). They then got to relax & celebrate their new engagement for the rest of the week in paradise.
